Great investment if you want to better your dog training skills!
One of the best books I have purchased for myself and my business. Had our other trainers read this, study it and became better trainers by learning from this. Real world scenarios, easy to understand, great way to learn more and become a better dog trainer. Absolutely worth the price!

CPDT Study guide
I got this largely as a study guide for the CPDT exam. It's an easy to read and informative book (*for someone already familiar with the material I found it incredibly easy to read, it may be a little more challenging for totally novice people). Unlike some of the other suggested study material for the exam, this book is really easy to read and get through--not as dense as some. It covers a wide range of topics and information required for both the exam AND for being an effective trainer. It would be a great resource for novice trainers to learn some of book knowledge required to be skilled and efficient trainers of dogs and coaches of humans. ***Update, I just took the CPDT exam and a huge portion of the test came from this book--so it was absolutely fantastic test prep!

A wonderful, comprehensive resource!
This is an excellent book for people who wish to coach others in how to train their dogs. As you can see from the table of contents, this book is packed with 406 pages of advice and information, and it is a very thorough resource. It is written in easy-to-understand language, and would be useful to supplement any dog training class. Information contained in this book is very general, and one would need to look to other sources for more specific information on individual training topics (such as handling aggression, excessive barking, etc). Solid, complete, great study guide
Terry Ryan is an excellent dog trainer and her book demonstrates that. It is thoughtfully organized and chock full of information. She even includes samples of the handouts for her classes at Legacy Canine. I do believe she has an updated version coming out soon, but I really wanted to get started studying for the CPDT and just didn't want to wait! I'm enjoying Terry's easy to read writing style and absorbing plenty of information!

Extremely helpful
A lot of great info in this book all the way from ethology to lesson plan ideas for holding classes. If you are a new/ novice trainer, or a more experienced trainer with a growing private client list and you need ideas for class offerings to keep them moving forward there is a lot to get out of this book. It is totally worth the price.

A great Dog Training Resource!
A great resource for any Dog Trainer. I am studying for my CPDT-KA exam and this book is of great help. I highly recommend this book for any Dog Trainer who is studying for professional certifications and/or needs tips for leading their own dog training classes, etc.

An absolute must-read for every dog trainer.
I love how well-organized the content of the book is and how easy to read it is. Terry Ryan is an amazing teacher and I am profoundly grateful she shared her wisdom and experiences with us. Even if you are an experienced dog trainer, you are going to find the book very informative and you will learn a lot.

Like the extensive content but it is very American in some places. Using the book to aid with dog training.
