desertcart.com : Underwood Roast Beef Spread 4.25 Oz (Pack of 6) : Beef Steaks : Grocery & Gourmet Food Review: Still tastes like it did during my 80s childhood! - I've always been a huge fan of Underwood's Roast Beef Spread. My mom always made us sandwiches of Roast Beef Spread that she had stirred with a small amount of barbecue sauce (usually Maull's when I was younger, and then later Country Bob's) in the can before spreading on Roman Meal or white sandwich bread in the 1980s. It was a staple of my youth diet. Eventually our Midwestern Kroger stores stopped carrying it, and a couple years later, the local mom-and-pop grocer also let their Underwood variety dwindle to only chicken & deviled ham varieties. By college (late 90s), I was thrilled to discover a Super Walmart in my university town always had it stocked, and once again I lived off it happily for several years, pleased with the unchanged (nostalgic) flavor and texture, long shelf life & decent price for a can you could get 2-3 decent lunch-sized sandwiches from. Eventually it stopped appearing at Walmart, too, and I started having to order it in heavy bulk online in the 2000s it from MyBrands, Inc., when I occasionally could afford to order bulk goods on a 22-year-old's salary. But then it started popping up with more regularity on desertcart after my kids were born, and I've been ordering it from here with great happiness and satisfaction ever since. I'm an adult who has loved it since I was a kid, my own kids like it (one more than the other, but still...), and it's still the same good product it's always been. AND THEN...! Recently, after intensive major intestinal surgery, I wound up basically adopting most of the same dietary rules and stages that normal bariatric surgery patients follow after various gastric procedured, which involves an extended period of time retraining your body to accept pieces of various foods with protein, so there's a span of time before dairy is allowed back when you just about absolutely have to eat meat purees at least some days of the week. Cooked chicken in my blender was grossing me out and a pain the neck, and I couldn't eat soft poached fish every single day...but it finally occurred to me that Roast Beef Spread was absolutely simpatico with my nutritional stage (opaque purees), and what's more--after a can has sat on the shelf for a minimal period of time, you can stick it in the fridge for 30-45 minutes before eating so that then when you peel away the top of the tin, most of the fat has risen to the top (above the meat) in the can, and also turns more solidified/opaque from the chill, so if you're avoiding extra fat in your diet, you can just scrape the bulk of the fat off the top with a butter knife. Sometimes it "pops" off in almost one single piece all together! I have always done that trick (not just recently), because I can enjoy it more know that the nutrition facts on the label are no longer accurate because I just removed significant grams of fat/grease & many calories from each serving right off the bat. I'm so glad that I can enjoy Roast Beef Spread even after surgical measures have left me unable to digest almost all of my old habitual go-to foods for at least a time, and I'm even happier to be able to find desertcart carries it in a variety of small-to-large bulk amounts (starting at only 6-can packs for just my house, or larger amounts like 24-packs at a time if I want to really stock up or if my siblings want to share an order with me). Highly recommend both the product itself and also ordering through desertcart! I have never gotten anything even close to expiration date from my desertcart orders, and it shows up so quickly I'm still craving it when it comes as much as I did when I ordered it only two days before. Review: Underwood meat spread. - You can't go wrong with Underwood canned meats. The roast beef is my favorite flavor.
