Remove screws and the two halves of the handle will come apart and then the control board is held on by a few more screws. Under that are the 2 18650 batteries. **Q: what is the thickness of the light bar itself?** A: I don't have it in front of me right now but I think the light bar is about about 1/2" thick or 13 mm which ever you prefer. So far the light has worked well.
