Great Backyard Firepit
I ordered this thing in the middle of summer when there was a lack of available "commercial" firepits. I was surprised at the quality of the product I received! The firepit is sturdy, heavy duty, and easy to assemble. You only have to attach the legs and the circular ring around the rim (I'm still not certain what this is for, aside from simply leaning a roasting prong on it). The pit itself is plenty large enough to get a good fire going and deep enough to be able to put the mesh on it (it includes a poker that you may also use to set the mesh on it while a fire is going). Don't expect to build a bonfire, however, it's not THAT large. I went to a big box home improvement store and picked up four cheap 18"x18" paver stones to put on the grass under this thing, and they seem to do nicely. Also, don't forget a bag of sand to put in the bottom of the pit, which prevents the heat from transferring to the metal too much. I've only owned it for a few weeks and I've used it a handful of times. It's still as beautiful as ever! I was worried about the brown clay look (I wanted black at first), but I rather like it now. I have two criticisms of the product. First, there are no small drain holes to allow water to filter out the bottom. Of course if there were that might mean sand would come out as well, but I worry a good heavy storm is going to fill this thing, and then what, I'll have to find a way to tip a water + sand filled pit and drain it? And secondly, it sometimes seems hard to build a fire in the pit because it doesn't have a significant amount of airflow into the pit. Yes the moon- and star-shaped holes offer some airflow, but building a fire seems more difficult than in an open pit, but once you get a fire going it burns as nicely as ever. I suppose my criticism is silly since any similar commercial firepits like this would suffer the same issue. Overall I LOVE this firepit and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a nice commercially-constructed pit for backyard use.

Seems well made. - update 8-6-2014
I like it so far, just received it today. Seems well built, easy to put together. Everything was there and nothing was damaged. I noticed that some reviews mentioned having difficulty putting the ring on. So I left the screws loose so I could fit the parts together more easily then tightened them down after the ring was assembled. I don't know how well the paint will hold up, but at this price I guess I am not too concerned. High temp paint isn't that expensive. I may drill a small hole in the bottom for water to escape. I will probably put a layer of fiberglass fabric over it and cover it with the suggested sand. The grill seems to be well made. I am looking forward to firing it up. update - 8/6-2014 I made the modifications I stated above, seem to be working OK. Have used it now a few times, the paint seems to be fine, it is not burning or peeling as others have noted. I did put sand in the bottom so that probably protects the bottom of the bowl. I have gotten lots of complements on the fire pit by people we have had over to share the fire with us. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fender remains cool and allows us to move the fire pit even with coals or a small fire in it. You can rest your feet on the fender ring without fear of burning your feet. Note, if you are going to place it on grass you should put down a piece of metal or cement board to protect the grass. It will scorch the grass below. Also be careful when placing the hot spark arrestor screen on the ground when adding wood, it will also scorch the grass. Otherwise, very pleased at this point by my purchase, would recommend it to anyone.

Great deal on a great product!
Love this fire pit for many reasons, but mostly because it can double as a grill. In our area we sometimes have "no-burn" days where we cannot use our fireplace or a firepit, but we can still do Barbeque. The unit is a great size and east to put together in about 10-20 minutes. I would recommend using loc-tite or a similar product to keep the bolts from coming loose. As a fire pit it is great and the little cutouts look really nice and let air in for good burns. They are protected by a metal mesh to keep sparks from getting out. As barbecue or grill, it is not as good as a regular barbecue for a couple of reasons. First there is no grate included to hold the coals up close enough to the grill. Second, without a solid dome lid, it doesn't hold heat very well. As a fix, I bought a 20" replacement grate from Home Depot and put it on top of two bricks. It works well with firewood or charcoal. On a typical night we fire up some mesquite charcoal to cook on and when we are done cooking we put firewood on and enjoy that. It feels like eating around a campfire in the woods right in our backyard. Overall, it is a great product, and even the color, sort of a rusty or brick reddish brown, works well because it does not look dirty or dusty like a black one might. I saw the exact same product at my local Ace Hardware for almost three times the price.

Good fire pit
had mine for about 4 years until it deteriorated- mostly the legs... but will probably get another. One thing I would just put out there- I see a lot of reviews on here saying to spray the INSIDE of the pit with Rustoleum (or some other) hi heat resistant paint. If you read what Rustoleum and other paint companies say about this, that is not a good idea. That paint is not made for direct flame and they recommend against it for health reasons. I'm not an expert, just what I read. I think when you buy a fire pit for this price, if you use it somewhat often, you may have to replace it in a few years- that's just the way it goes.

I wish I may I wish I might
Hi my name is Kristin, and I'm a campaholic. My favorite thing, hands down, is the evening fireside wind down. Unfortunately, I'm recovering from major vascular surgery and camping is and will be MIA for a long time. Boooo. When shopping for a pit, I intended on staying within my disability budget but failed when I saw this blazing beauty. The Yays 1. It's as alluring in person as it is online. 2. The stars and moons are everything I expected and more. We celebrated its arrival with a family picnic and everyone commented on the exquisite embellishments. 3. Easy to assemble and position, just take note of the weight in case you're a hundred pound handicap like me! The Nays 1. I noticed another reviewer's comment about sand - we totally missed this instruction and have been using it sand free. Not cool. I also took note of another review regarding chipping and I see it like this ... yes, this was not a cheap investment and chipping is crappy ... but I like it so much that I don't even want to know about imperfections. It will always have the stars and moons, it will always welcome some wood (note to self: buy sand to support this claim), and that is all I need to know! PS. This video also advertises an addiction addition of mine! Mystical Fire Campfire Fireplace Colorant Packets 12 Pack

It's a good solid and deep pit and it is still in ...
I bought this a year ago and have had it fired up about a dozen times. It's a good solid and deep pit and it is still in excellent condition after a year of use. The paint never pealed. The family gathers around it, food is cooked on the grill directly or in iron pots, marshmallows are toasted over the coals at the end. It is sturdy and will last many seasons. Of course I don't let rain fall into it; I keep it covered, or take the sand and ashes out and hang it up on a sturdy nail in the shed for the winter. And of course we found out on the first heavy use that the grass will die from the heat in a pizza sized patch underneath. We moved it to a level place where the condition of the grass doesn't matter; another solution would have been to improvise a heat shield for the grass under the pit. There is a useful poker supplied, the rail is useful, the hardware is sturdy and assembly was easy. So, good merchandise at a reasonable price (mine was $105 at Amazon, free shipping); five stars.

I like this thing!
I purchased this fire pit as a clearance item (supposedly damaged, but I could not see anything remotely damaged on it), so consequently it cost a bit less than what you're probably seeing here. My plan was to have it outside on Halloween so as to greet the Trick-or-Treaters in the courtyard instead of having to get up and down to answer the door. Three friends and I gathered around the fire and it was a terrific evening. Everyone who stopped by said how cool it looked. Of course the celestial moon and stars design was a nice Halloween touch. Because I didn't have a log grate, we put sand in the bottom to give some height to stackable duraflame type logs; the warmth was so nice on a cool evening. I even placed my feet underneath (there's quite a bit of clearance the pit) and it was really comfortable...not too hot at all. There is also a nice little ring around the pit and everyone put their feet up without getting too warm or melting shoes. This Halloween trial run has sold me on using this outdoors during the cooler/cold months. The pit came with a grill grate, so I'm looking forward to building a real wood fire and cooking on it; though it might lend itself better to weenies and s'mores rather than steaks. I purchased this from Amazon and true to form it was delivered super fast and qualified for free shipping. Even at regular price I think this item is a great buy for a first time fire pit user.

Landmann Big Sky Stars and Moon Fire Pit
Overall I like it a lot. Its large enough for several pieces of fire wood and seems to be well constructed and sturdy, I used it every night for the first week after it arrived. Shipping from Amazon was quick and free, which is always a plus. Price through Amazon was $50.00 cheaper than I could get it locally. The good: Sturdy, easy to put together, price The bad: The paint peeled off the fire screen the first time I used it. Not a big deal I thought, until I noticed rust forming on it a few days later. I have since sanded it down and painted it with a flat high temp engine enamel. I would recommend it to a friend *Update* April 2014. The base is still in good condition but the screen on top now has a hole in it from rust. Screen is still usable at least for now. l am overall happy with the purchase still.

Please with purchase
Well designed and easy to assemble. Have only had one fire in it so far but was very pleased with it. Would have liked it to be a little heavier gage so that it would last longer.
