Does it handle heavy denim

For sewing denim or any other type of heavy weight fabric on the Singer Model 5400 sewing machine, please follow these instructions: 1) Machine Settings: Longest Straight Stitch (to allow for the thickness of the fabric) 2) Metal All Purpose Foot (on your machine when it came out of the box) 3) Singer 2026 Needle, Needle size 16 to 18 (using another brand can cause tension issues 4) Moderate speed when sewing over multiple layers/seams.

Is this machine good for a beginner adult?

The Singer model 5400 will be a good choice for an adult to begin sewing with. This machine has 60 built in stitches: 8 Essential / Basic Stitches, 40 Decorative Stitches, 8 Stretch Stitches and 4 Buttonholes, making your project possibilities are endless. It also comes with a "Quick Start Guide" and Machine "Intro DVD" to help you get started.

Does this machine come with a book of instruction? Is it easy to read and understand? I hate when you get an instruction bk in tiny print. thank you.

All Singer machines currently include a printed manual with illustrations. The print is about 8-10 point. We do have the manuals on our website in PDF so that you could download and zoom in to change the font size.

Would this machine be able to stitch small animal hides, like rabbits, together?

The Singer Model 5400 sewing machine, with the correct needle and settings, could possibly sew rabbit skins together; however we would recommend using a more Heavy Duty model, such as the Singer Model CG590, Model 5532 or any of the 4400 series Singer machines. The Singer Heavy Duty line of machines will sew "garment weight" leather. We suggest that a "leather point" needle as well as a Roller/Non-Stick presser foot be used when sewing.
