Will this work on a spin bike?

Mine is a spin bike I have it on the hub

For Garmin, which metrics does it transmit in addition to speed and cadence? Does it provide distance? Thanks.

Purchased for use on a bicycle/turbo trainer. The sensors transmit only speed/cadence. Connected to an iPad via Bluetooth, various apps calculate power and distance from the speed/cadence information. I would expect the same would be true for a Garmin app or device. Hope that helps

Can the cadence mode but used for an indoor bike by attaching to a shoe or inside the top of a sock?

Yes it can be used this way but it's designed to be attached to the crank arm (I put it near the pedal on the left crank arm), this is how I use it on my indoor trainer.
