What is the diameter of the hole underneath the grate?

Not sure of the exact diameter, but this is a snap adapter that will fit a standard 4 inch corrugated pipe.

I see 3 and 4 inch nominal pvc fitting this in the picture. Is that the sawn off end fitting onto the outlet, or the factory expanded end of the pipe?

I do not understand your questions. Part# 640 will fit 3” and 4” Drain pipe and Drain fittings. Also bell end side of the pipe, which is the equivalent of the end of a fitting.
