Polystyrene may be painted and coated for either a finishing or protecting effect. May be coated with paints, glitters, paper mache, plaster of Paris and more. Caution - Petroleum-based paints and glues will melt polystyrene. RECOMMENDED CUTTING TECHNIQUES FOR EPS EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE FOAM While Expanded Polystyrene (eps) foam can be cut with a knife or saw, these methods will create shedding or messy dust. For precision shaping with clean lines, it is best to shape with a hot wire tool of some kind that melts a clean and smooth edge to your project. Simply draw out your design and follow with the hot wire tool. These cutting tools are readily available on desertcart under the search term, Hot Wire Cutter. Cut pieces can be stacked to create incredible 3-dimensional designs and Diorama sets. With a bit of paint and some creative imagination, the sky is the limit. Multiple pieces can be adhered together to create large scenes Whether your project is a large scene or a smaller school project, pieces can be shaped and glued together with hot glue, Elmer's glue, Mod Podge, or any non-solvent-based glue to create more dimension and texture. As a general rule, if your glue or coating has strong fumes, it is a solvent base and will likely melt your foam and not provide optimal results. Rigid yet, lightweight. Polystyrene is a firm, rigid foam that can support great amounts of weight, yet remains light and easy to transport and work with. Gaming and Diorama uses. With some simple tools, such as soldering irons, hot knives, and wood-burning tools, textures can be melted into your polystyrene to create realistic textures. Many customers use our foam for creating small-scale sets for action figures or game play as well as model railroading and architectural models. Extremely versatile for many different uses. Polystyrene is commonly used as cost-effective 3-dimensional signage. Provides excellent padding for shipping and transport protection EPS foam is commonly used in building process as insulation with excellent thermal properties. Pieces can be used to fill gaps for added insulation. Floats in water without decay, which makes it perfect for hydroponics or floating party decorations. 1 pound density polystyrene is strong enough to support significant weight. A common question we receive is "how much weight will polystyrene support?" Polystyrene provides excellent strength and is commonly used underneath highways and in heavy construction. It will show visible dents, but can support the weight of a human without crushing or breaking. For added durability, there are numerous foam coatings ranging from concrete, Dryvit, plaster of paris, specialty foam coatings, latex paint, etc. that will create a hardened shell on your foam which can withstand many years of repeated use. The foam in this listing is 1lb per cubic foot density. Great for CakePops and other organization. Items can be inserted into the foam for display or organization. Because of its light weight and ease of use, EPS polystyrene is commonly used for display projects such as centerpieces, retail displays and even entomology and butterfly collections. EPS foam is cost-effective and has a clean, white appearance, which makes it perfect for many crafting and display projects. Inexpensive and Lightweight product for display and riser material. Polystyrene provides a rigid, yet protective support for items such as gift baskets, school projects, model railroad terrain and many other items that require a height adjustment for optimal display.
