If you want to understand how the poor(most of India in Earlier 20th century) lived, this is the book. It narrates beautifully how simple a poor man's desires are.

Pretty average or slightly above average
I can see why Hindi speaking population might like this because this seems to be the first thing that happened in that language that had a decent literary substance, but there are better novels in other languages. It can be of the level of any other Kannada speaking professor's aspirational literary work, pretty average.

If you want to know deeply about the struggles of a farmers life than you must read this classic masterpiece..... I salute Shree munshi ji premchand....

An excellent, heart-wrenching and acerbic take on society. Beautifully written and this edition was excellent - good print, good quality paper - highly recommend it.
