We have steady winds to 30mph and rare gusts to 100mph. We have a 40amp break switch and a rope tied to the back so we can “lock” it out of the wind when it gets to strong. Very quiet turbine. Today is gusts to 50 and I don’t hear it in my house. I’m waiting to save to buy another turbine. Update: Dec 01 had a ice storm that caused ice to hit the spinning turbine. The blades are well built and took the impact resulting in a small chip in one of blades. I emailed pikasola and they immediately sent me a new turbine blade. It should really be advertised as 100 watts, since it takes over 30 knot winds to achieve anything close to 200 watts and storm force winds to exceed that. I live in a very windy area so it consistently produces decent output. I’m running 1 kw of solar as well so the wind gen pulls to help charge the batteries when it’s cloudy a few days in a row. This was the second one I’ve purchased. I ran the last one hard for three years and the output was really dropping. I replaced it with the same one so I’d have spare parts onhand. One small complaint was the sticker placed on the leeward side of the blade. It’s the annoying paper sticker that is impossible to remove and junks up the look of the product. It leaves sticker scar and does affect airflow over the blade. Near batteries or turbine** A: LOCATE CONTROLLER AS CLOSE TO THE BATTERIES AS POSSIBLE **Q: can a stop switch be installed on this turbine?** A: it has a built in brake/ if the wind gets too fast and too much current is generated the Controller sends the charge back to the unit and causes it to function like a magnetic brake. The unit comes to a stand still until the wind dies down and the charge lapses. **Q: Does the system come with batteries? If not what type do I need?** A: No, it does not come with batteries. You can either design a 12 volt system or a 24 volt system. I'm using 4 6-volt batteries wired in series for a 24 volt system. It powers a 24 volt to 120 volt inverter. Ask my why *by A***R on April 7, 2021* This turbine struggled to make ANY power in steady 15 mph winds. Worse yet, it was consuming about 200 m.a. at around 10 mph once the electronics woke up. I waited to return the turbine since a storm was rolling in bringing up to 40 mph sustained winds. The storm came and the turbine was absolutely screaming. Peak amperage with a 47 mph gust was 9 amps at 13.2 volts. (This works out to 118 watts) almost 75% below this touted 400 watt business advertised. The healthy and tested 75 ah. battery was deliberately depleted to 50% for this test. No loads. Just the battery. Unit was mounted in free air 20 above sea level. Zero obstructions in all directions at the end of an open marina here in Seattle. I have owned other turbines in this same class and build (Air X marine) and it produced more than 40 amps in similar conditions. Some other notable crap in this bundle include, but are not limited to are: Noisy rotor bearings, short and undersized output wires, useless rectifier/controller, toy-like inaccurate anemometer. In closing, curiosity got the better of me to see if a $260 turbine that looked, and was reviewed this well could be true... Nope. Everyone that slammed this product knows what a reputable turbine company puts out as their product.
