Red onions is mostly what I use it for, but I am sure it would cut any veggies just fine. But, take care because the plank is a tiny bit on the flimsy side, and you must be cautious. But, with that said - IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF CUTTING YOURSELF WITH SHARP OBJECTS, THEN DO NOT COOK. Go out to eat where you can be safe from cutting yourself, or have your mommy come over and handle the "scary sharp things" for you. If, however, you are an adult with a well-functioning sense of what normal and customary caution, and you intrinsically UNDERSTAND that sharp things CAN CUT YOU, then this thing is awesome. It is NOT "dangerous and out to get you." It is YOU who must be careful with it. After all, it is an inanimate object. The reviews that say that "it sent them to the ER" are ridiculous. The users are to blame, NOT this well-designed gadget. I love it. It does what it says and the price is terrific. Just pay attention to what you are doing. It's pretty easy to use BUT a significant safety hazard!! The v-shapd blade does not have a safety cover. The blade is wide open and out there to slice your finger with, which is exactly what I did. I ended up in Urgent Care where they were unable to stitch the wound closed because so much skin had been sliced off. Please don't purchase this. Even using it as one should, it can not be safely cleaned, if you manage to get through your vegetables without injury. It needs redesigned and shouldn't even be for sale. I contacted Amazon regarding what happened to me and they promptly refunded my money, however I'm disappointed to still see this item for sale.
