Carbon Express Crossbow Release Bolt - Black

***Updating review to 5 stars since company quickly sent me a replacement after contacting them.*** Arrow worked well for de-cocking my crossbow, however the nock broke off after only a few uses. Disappointing quality.

For the record I tried this discharge bolt and also the small yellow jacket discharge bag to see which one I felt was more practical on a regular basis. I like the discharge bolt better for these reasons. 1. I don't have to fire my expensive bolts into a discharge bag every time I unload. 2. I don't have to carry a discharge bag with me everywhere I go make a hunt. I just keep the discharge bolt in my quiver. 3. The discharge bolt is very heavy in weight grains therefore it really slows the bow down when fired meaning much less wear and tear on the bow when firing the bolt off. 4. It's a cheaper option at 13 bucks as opposed to 17 bucks for the bag. 5. It works great! I fire it at a soft spot in the ground where I hit no rocks or stumps and it hits and bounces up about a foot then falls over. It doesn't bury in the mud, doesn't ricochet all over the place....no problems at all. Easy to carry to the stand. I'm very happy with this purchase.

EDITED REVIEW. It broke after 6 uses. I am asking the manufacturer for a replacement. If they send will up rating to 5 star because Great Customer Service is just as valuable as the product you buy. Great Customer Service. Carbon Express is sending me a replacement. That is just as important as the product. No one is perfect and sometimes stuff breaks. BUT a company that stands behind its product.....PRICELESS

Practical and effective in the field for safely coming down from the stand without a loaded weapon. I will say questionable quality however. Of the three I’ve bought, one is missing (my fault), another snapped on impact with the ground (tip penetrated a few inches but the shaft shattered, maybe bad angle?), and the third is doing great after 30+ uses

I used this for two discharges, with my relatively new Barnett Raptor. Once from a tree stand into earth, and it worked OK. Second time was the following morning, shot into an earth berm from 15 yards. Shaft snapped off just before the head, and the head deformed. Now, I'll grant it must have hit a rock, but that's a risk you always take, so for that reason I would not recommend these or purchase it again. Very expensive way to decock a crossbow if it lasts only two shots. I bought it thinking I'd save money with a non-disposable decocking bolt over the single-use kinds, but obviously that turned out to be a false economy.

I haven't tried it on dry ground yet but I shot a plastic water jug at 10 yards looking for a good splash. I fired it from a X-bow rated at 350fps and it punched a clean round hole in the jug then dug a foot long trench in the soft dirt behind the jug. With this much energy to disperse, I would definitely not shoot it as something hard like a tree.

This bolt shoots true. I discharge my crossbow at about 10 yards into an old target. The last thing I want to do at the end of a day of hunting in growing darkness is track down a misplaced discharge bolt. This bolt goes where I aim it. Very strong construction. I am going into my fourth year with my original bolt. The price is reasonable too, so I bought a second for a spare to keep at camp.

It serves the intended purpose as a replacement for a fragile hollow shaft bolt when you need to uncock your drawn limbs and a suitable discharge target is unavailable. It is a solid shaft with a half moon V cut into the end. The whole bolt is rather heavy as desired to accomodate most of the heaviest draw crossbows. Fits nicely in a quiver to have on hand if needed. When I released it about 45 degrees into a hard dry lawn it did not inbed below the surface but bounced once about 20 feet and came to a rest. Have not attempted to unscrew the tip ftom the pictured front base disc, the whole thing seems plasticoated on mine and may be one solid piece of steel. Works fine like it is.
