If we turn the dial clockwise , we will get a smoother grind and the opposite will give you a coarser grind. This burr grinder is stainless steel. It does not look so inspiring but it does a fine job grinding the coffee. The grind was very consistent which is important for any decent cup of coffee. You can grind beans up to neck full and it will make a grind that is sufficient to make at least 3 cups of coffee.Though the stainless steel grinder is thin, it's very strong and the lid is pretty tight.It also has a transparent plastic see through on 2 sides of the grinder so that you will be able to see the thickness,consistency and amount of the groundI timed myself grinding the beans which were full up to the neck of the grinder, it took me around 2-3 minutes to grind all those beans. There is very little room in a teardrop camper and this item tucks away easily for storage. I love the fact that I can have fresh ground coffee without the use of electricity! The storage pouch and easily removeable handle works great for storage too!!! It is rather easy to adjust the burr and change the size of the grounds. I also love the fact that it is stainless steel and will hold up to the damp conditions of camping/hiking. It's portable, easy to use, fairly light weight and the smell of fresh ground coffee in the morning is wonderful!!! Kudos to the designer because it's perfect for on the go!!! Use this at work, hiking, fishing, camping, hunting and when you travel for fresh ground coffee!!! The scoop easily clips to a bag of beans too!I am able to grind the entire hopper to a medium grind in about 3 1/2 minutes. This gives me 1.2 ounces of fresh ground coffee beans or enough for about 8 cups of coffee.The grinding cylinder measures 7 2/8 inches high by 7/8 inches wide. This is the measurement without the handle attached. It weighs 13.2 ounces filled with beans. This weight also includes the bag, handle, and scoop.Oh, it works great with the French Press too!!! It came very nicely packaged with good directions, a coffee tablespoon scoop, and a storage bag. I was able to fit 5 tablespoons of coffee fully loaded. The handle turns smoothly and the ceramic burr grinder creates a nice consistent grind. It took a bit longer to grind than I thought. At least a good thirty seconds. Could just be that I'm used to our automatic grinder doing it for me. This is made of stainless steel with ceramic grinders.
