I had a one-sided adhesive magnet I put on the back of my machine, being sure it was high enough on the backside for the light to get over the machine to where I needed it. Unfortunately, the cord kept getting in the way & moved the light or pulled it off all together.

7" flexible gooseneck allows the light to be adjusted exactly to where you need it to be with no sagging or drooping.

Can the magnet scratch the paint on what it is mounted on?

It should not, as long as it is mounted on a flat surface. Whomever designed the light wanted to prevent the magnet from scratching the surface, and affixed a thin rubber O-ring around the edge of the magnet. The O-ring contacts the surface, not the magnet itself, to inhibit scratching surface finish. I hope this is helpful.
