This was very informative and had a wide variety of info on different mythical beasts and creatures as well as having great illustration.

Gives you enough information to being a gateway / starting point. If you want super detailed info on each creature, this is not going to be the book for you. But, it gives you enough information to be curious and start looking into them on your own. I have an art background and can confidently say the art is absolutely gorgeous, nicely stylized, and colorful. Book arrived in good condition and is very sturdy. The subject matter was no concern for me, but it mentions things like death and general common themes for mythology. Nothing I found graphic or upsetting (the same themes are present in many children’s stories). But it wouldn’t hurt for a parent to flip through first to make sure they’re okay with the content.

My 8 year old son loves this book. It helped us survive an 11 day cross country road trip with 3 kids in the car. He's autistic and extremely interested in anything to do with the ocean/sea creatures. He found the lore very fascinating and each description was a good length - not too long so that he loses interest, but not so short that you don't get enough information either. The pictures were vibrant and definitely held his attention.

I was looking for a cryptid book for a 10 year old; informative but not too graphic or scary. This fits the bill. Has a lot of unique creatures and myths and my son has enjoyed it. It dabbles in creatures and legends from different cultures all over the world. Took off one star because it is missing some creatures I thought would have bee obvious to include. Most notable example would be bigfoot (who is actually mentioned in the description of the book; so odd he/she is not in the book). Overall I think it is good book for younger kids (probably age 12 and under) and is a good introduction to the world of myths and monster legends.

My 8 YO borrowed this from the library and full on sat on the couch to read it cover to cover; he loved it!! It was detailed with enough cool facts to be interesting and readable and also summarized enough that readers don’t get bored; great pictures and would recommend!

This is the most beautiful book of mythical creatures that I have really enjoyed sharing with my kids. With chapers including Tricksters, Shapeshifters, Creatures of the Deep and Winged Wonders, this book has something for everyone and is sure to become a treasured tome! I happen to know a fair bit about folklore and mythological creatures but even so, I am learning about some new ones that I have never even heard of before, so it really is one for all the family! The illustrations are amazing and it is beautifully laid out too, as books by Dorling Kindersley so often are. There are plenty of dragons, fairies, unicorns, griffins, trolls, giants, golems, banshees and there is even a page on the Cat Sith too. This is definitely a book to keep and treasure and we all highly recommend it!
