Cured My Plantar's Fasciitis With No Shots!
Four Years Later - Update to Original Post I have not had plantars fasciitis in the past 4 years but now I have it again so I pulled out my Vive Night Splint which really helps with one exception. The velcro connectors on this splint were never strong enough and never long enough. Sometimes you want to wear the splint loose and other times snug. So I asked my wife to sew on some velcro to make longer straps. It was pretty simple. She only needed to sew on the scratchy part of the velcro to the straps because the velcro 'hooks' very well to the original splint fabric. Much better than the velcro that came with the splint. See photo. This splint fits me like a glove any REALLY helps to relieve pressure as well as gently stretch the tendons in a good way. Note: this splint is not for walking but it protects/prevents your tendons on your heel from digging into the foot rest of a recliner. If you can sleep with it on your heel will feel better in the morning. Better than if you didn't wear it. But for newbies they should start with a short amount of time and build up to it. Sorry for the novel but I feel compelled to share my success with those who want to skip the cortisone shots. I bought a few items on Amazon to help cure my ailment. In order of effectiveness: 1. arch supports 2. foot splint 3. lacrosse ball 4. paint roller which I already had It took six month's to completely heal my heel but I did it with no cortisone shots. It might've healed even sooner if I did less walking but I chose to walk at lunch time now and then during these six months. Arch supports: Natural Foot Orthotics Stabilizer Arch Support Insoles for Plantar Fasciitis by Natural Foot Orthotics. You might think its crazy to spend $100.00 on a couple pieces of plastic but they worked wonders for me. They redistribute your weight to the arch area and reduce the weight on your heal. Be sure to follow the instructions about building up wear time slowly until you adjust to them. The first time I wore them it felt like I had a log in my shoe. Three days letter they felt like a glove. You get great customer service from this store. The first ones I tried were the wrong size (too flat) and too small for my foot. The owner let me swap them for free for a different size and height. I was concerned it would be hard to use these supports in the many pairs of shoes I wear because I thought I would need to anchor them into position with adhesive or velcro. Not the case. I use nothing to anchor them down and I don't remove the soles inside my shoes. I just take a little extra time when putting my shoes on to make sure the supports are back against the heal. I get very little slippage. However, you might find you need to buy bigger shoes to accomodate the arch support and your foot. I was lucky. I already wear big shoes to get a larger toe box so my shoes work ok with these supports. Warning. These supports are hard plastic not rubber. I only use them for walking not running. I'm 63 yrs old. 235 lbs and walk about 2 miles per day with these supports in sneakers. I wear a size 12 4E sneaker to get the width and toe box room but my foot is only 11 inches long. Think duck feet. I wear a size 12 W arch support. The tan one not the black one. The tan ones have a higher arch. I plan to wear these supports for a very long time even though my plantar's fasciitis is gone. Foot Splint: Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint by Vive - Soft Medical Brace Boot for Heel Spurs, Foot Pain, Heel Pain, Achilles Inflammation & Soreness Relief https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YZ7CUZC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1 This splint prevents your foot from pointing your toes while you sleep which in turn prevents the tendons and ligaments on the back of your leg from shrinking and tightening. I bought the XL size. I wore the splint at least half the night and sometimes all night. Also wore it in my recliner. When you wake up, massage briefly the back of your leg near your heal plus your achilles tendon and your calf muscle to loosen it before you take your first step. On the nights I chose not to wear the splint I experienced more pain in the morning. I had much less pain on those first steps of the day when I wore the splint all night. The velcro gets a little weak over time but I learned to live with it. Lacrosse Ball ResultSport Trigger Point Massage Ball Set Pack of 3 (Soft/Medium/Hard) - Stress Reflexology, Myofasical Ball, Exercise Ball, Lacrosse Ball https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SEG8U2M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They are hard which I found to be just what I needed. While sitting in a chair I ran the ball under my arch and heal. Sometimes I pressed firmly which I think brought fresh blood to the area plus loosened the ligaments. Sometimes I stood up while using it when I wanted to press harder. Paint Roller with 2 foot extension handle: I placed my knee on my bed which comes up to the middle of my quad. Then used the paint roller to press/roll on the back of my calf, achilles tendon and down to my heal. This loosened and lengthened the tendon which took pressure off the heal area where my pain was. A masseuse sure beats a paint roller but this was a cheap alternative.

Helps with Planters fasciitis!!!
I recently started to get heel/arch pain this past year. (Walk on hard floors 5-8 hours a day) pain was super bad in the morning. I could barely stand. I bought these hoping for some relief and they helped significantly. They're soft, comfortable, not heavy, bulky or itchy in any way. Easy to slip on and off. Easy to sleep in. Wish I had gotten them sooner!

Great idea, but needs improvement.
Kudos to VIVE for finally offering a night splint that is comfortable to wear! They do a wonderful job of easing my Plantar Fasciitis pain, and are comfortable enough to wear every night while sleeping. They use a rigid plastic boot for the structure, which is similar to their competitors (the ones that use big, clunky plastic buckles for attachment to the foot). The big difference with the VIVE splint is that the plastic shell is covered with a soft padded material. Nice product, but could be much better with a different material. The padded material is great for the inside of the boot, but not so good for the outside. The fuzzy fabric serves as the "loop" side of Velcro, and does a fine job of fastening to the "hook" material on the straps...for a while. After wearing these on both feet every night for a couple of months, the fuzzy covering is starting to lose its grip. I will typically find one or two straps undone when I wake up in the morning, and I am sure this number will increase as the fabric continues to wear. Velcro's own loop material will wear out eventually too, but at a much slower rate. The "grippyness" of the material acts a little like Velcro on your bed sheets, too; it makes it difficult to slip your feet under the covers and back out again. And changing positions in the middle of the night is a real pain; the boots grip the sheets and each other, usually causing one or more of the straps to come loose. Just for laughs, I wrapped a pair of cheap satin pillowcases around my feet after putting on the boots, and the slickness really make a big difference getting in and out of bed. Not a good solution for walking in, however. :-) Also, very amusing to the spouse! Although these boots are not intended for walking around in, it is unrealistic to think that people will take them off just to visit the bathroom in the middle of the night. My wife and I were initially amused to find that the walking on the padded material sounds exactly like walking on fresh snow; it becomes less amusing every time I awaken her with my nightly "snow walks". Plus, the material can be slippery on a tile floor. Here are my suggestions for improvement: 1. Keep the padded, breathable material on the inside of the boot, but switch to a slicker polyester material on the outside to make it easier to slip under the sheets. There is already a seam where the inside and outside sections are sewn together, so the same pattern could be used. The straps should also have the slick material on the outside to help prevent having them unfastened by friction with the sheets. 2. Add a small amount of rubbery material to the bottom (maybe an applied material like the treads on hospital socks) that will enhance grip when walking, but not so much that it will grip the sheets. This approach would also maintain the washability of the covering. 3. Instead of using the padded material itself to act as the "loop" side of Velcro, sew in genuine Velcro loop material only where needed on the back of the boot (just as the "hook" side of the Velcro is sewn into the straps now). It will be much more durable, and you won't have to worry about it gripping the sheets. I still recommend purchasing this item, but I sincerely hope the manufacturer will make some improvements in the future. It is a good product, but could be a GREAT product with a few tweaks!

velcro issues
i tried other PF night splints without luck (in terms of were they comfortable enough for me to actually get to sleep wearing them, and did they make any difference in my PF morning pain). there are a huge number of PF night splints on the market here at amazon, and i ended up asking my podiatrist for his reccommendation and he suggested this one, and it has been the best so far (have tried 3 or 4). this one is light and soft, comfy enough to sleep in once you figure out how to rest your foot in the bed. my one complaint is that the strip that goes around the top of the foot has velcro only on one side, so that it is expected that it will stick to just the felt on the other side (without the actual velcro "holding" stuff there to cling to). this might be ok if you werent wearing this to sleep in, putting it under the covers, and possibly turning over. the felt is just not enough for the velcro to grab hold of and it can come undone in the bed if you move. so i had to go buy some velcro for another $7 just to add myself what IMO should've been put there by the manufacturers (and what is on the other 2 strips, so confused??) also, the velcro that is on the top portion of the toe strip goes right to the ends of the strip so that if you're not wearing a sock, your toes or foot get scratched all night long by the part that sticks out. the boot itself causes me to be a little hotter in the night, so i don;t want to wear a sock (which would solve the rubbing velcro problem), so i just take a sock and put it under the strip, like a soft piece of fabric against my foot. on the up side, ive been wearing this every night for a month and my PF morning pain was immediately better, so it works with just a little tweak.

Here's some things you might want to know
First off, I love it, works great. Initially when ordering I wasn't entire sure what I was getting, so here are some things you might want to know: • This is basically a hard plastic splint with a soft fabric cover. I paid about $22 prime, which is a slam dunk deal, given that others are selling just the hard plastic piece (no fabric, no wedges, no ball) for about the same price. • I would definitely not want to use this thing without the fabric cover. In fact, if I have any complaints, it would be that the fabric is not thick enough, especially around the ankle bones. But you can easily stuff a piece of foam anywhere you want for extra padding. • Yes the cover comes off to wash. But it also doesn't seem to get dirty too easily. • Don't worry too much about the sizing. I got an XL (mens shoe size 12-13). But I suspect that a Large would have worked ok as well. And I have very muscular calves, but everything fits just fine. In fact it might be a little big, but no complaints. • This works on either leg, left or right. There is one in the package. • This thing is big. It's rigid (doesn't fold), and comes in a big box. But it's light weight. • I sleep in it, and also try to wear it while sitting at a desk or watching a show. You can't really walk around in it, it's not made for that. • It doesn't quite get to a 90% angle. In fact, my heel doesn't really hit the bottom. But that's ok, it's still working. And that's what the wedges are for. • The wedges are great, Initially I wasn't sure if I would use them, but in fact, they are a necessity. If you're using for Plantar Fasciitis, prop up your the front of your foot with one or even both wedges, try to get your foot at a 90% angle or even small, as much as you can handle. This will help stretch out the injury even more. • I have a latex sensitivity, and this does not bother me. I can't guarantee there's no latex in it, but there's nothing stretchy about it (where latex would typically be used). It has a 2-fold goal. First is to cast your injury. In case you don't understand about casts & swelling...when the body has an injury, it sends blood to that area (swelling) to hold the body part nice and firm so it can heal. When you cast the body part artificially with a splint, you're holding the body part in place and allows the swelling to go down. Second, this holds your foot at an angle to stretch out the heel (in the case of plantar fasciitis or other injury on the bottom of the foot). Plantar fasciitis is often an injury of inactivity, failure to stretch the soft tissue on the bottom of your feet (or sedentary for 5 days, then super active, such as jogging). So stretching out the foot while resting is a passive way to activate that soft tissue. Good luck!

insufficient heel padding
In time I could have probably got used to the bulkiness as well as figured out the ideal strap tightness (enough so my foot couldn’t flex but not so much to wake up with numb toes like I did). However, the dealbreaker for me which caused me to return it was that the heel area was so hard that it increased the pain in my heel area! I had figured that as I wake up with heel pain more than arch pain both in the middle of the night and in the morning (both presumably from Plantar Fascitis), I’d do better with the heel support of this type of brace, vs one with support on the front of the ankle. But this didn’t have nearly enough heel padding for me. Otherwise, positives for me were that it’s easy to put on, highly adjustable (including the option to put 1 or 2 shims under your toes to stretch the fascia more), sizing is accurate, quality seems decent for the price, and you can walk short distances in them (like to the bathroom). Negatives were it’s time consuming to put on (especially as the velcro straps can get stuck to each other and/or the brace), it’s easy to make the straps too tight (and wake up with numb toes), the velcro is loud (I had to go to another room to adjust it during the night and to remove it in the morning as to not risk waking up my husband), and it’s hard plastic so I think it would be tough to sleep on your side (you’d probably want a pillow between your legs as to not risk the brace touching your leg).

Love it
This is a great product. Plantar fasciitis can be extremely painful and can be difficult to treat and heal. Any brace is just one part of a treatment plan- not a quick fix. If you wear this brace and then walk barefoot or in high heels or run through the pain-your plantar fasciitis will not go away. I had three cortisone shots, used a brace that went on top of my foot (which I hated), wore only expensive new balance sneakers with custom orthotics, had 2 months of physical therapy and my plantar fasciitis would not go away. After consulting three podiatrists, I had surgery for plantar fasciitis and lengthened my calf muscle which was too tight. I was casted then in a CAM walking boot which was horrible to sleep in. I bought this brace to use when I got out of the walking boot. Is it perfect? No, but it only cost $25. It was very comfortable. I found that instead of putting the ankle strap across the top ankle to ankle , I put it over and down to the bottom of the boot -ankle to heel, which kept my foot in place. It has slightly a forward bend by the calf and the heel goes too far back. I didn't try to get my heel all the way back. I'm a woman in size 8.5 shoe and bought a medium. My calf was swollen after surgery and this brace gives plenty of room for large calfs. It is not meant to walk in, but you can hobble to the bathroom. I wish it had more padding on the bottom to cushion the heel for these nighttime bathroom trips. It does not have rubber on the bottom-BUT you don't want that. You'd never be able to roll over in bed if there was rubber on the sole. The material is super soft, it's very comfortable, it stabilized my foot in a 90 degree angle. Exactly what you want for plantar fasciitis. I'm six weeks post surgery and I found that this boot is perfect for icing my heel and calf using the soft reusable ice packs. I would definitely recommend it.

not cheap but worth it
It's really bulky to wear in bed but boy gets the job done. But done these slints are comfortable when trying trying to sleep. The new technology with a lot of these splints now have a strap from your shin to your toes which in theory is what you need but does not work, at least for me, it creates whole new type of discomfort and is difficult to connect and to keep adjusted. This model does all that with out any problems with straps or anything else to attach. Just 3 velcro straps and you're good to go. I wear during day when just sitting reading and sped up my recovery. I have bought several of these during by recent episode and the one is a keeper. I am traveling to Florida for the winer is this item is coming with me just in case of recurring incident. It has priority suitcase space! It aint cheap but worth the money.

Incredible (and practically instant) results!
These are very comfortable to wear and definitely do what they are supposed to do: relieve plantar fasciitis pain. Getting out of bed in the morning without having to worry whether I could actually walk or not is simply priceless. Just make sure to use it for a while to help in the long run, even though you will literally feel almost 100% after one night's use.

Amazing
Omg this is perfect product I have to wear a cast for 3 months but it constant rubs causing sore and you have to wear a shoe that dosent fit and when standing always in the middle of the night too or I would slip on the cast I have a dropped arch and just had my ankle joint removed The consultant has decided not to repair the dropped arch But found this product amazing The heel is so spongy it bounces the heel back up so no pressure on my painful heel too There are wedges to place taking pressure off the arch amazing It also fits a good size leg as mine has swollen due to operation having my foot with a fixater too Wish I had found this earlier I’m going to wear it all the time now
