Chana Masala: Pretty Good
SPICY. A warning to those with sensitive palates. This is spicy. I love spicy food so it tastes good to me. But I can see how some might not like this. I followed the instructions, but it was still a little underhydrated. So an added a splash of hot water and let it sit. For a really long time because I got busy doing other things. Then the consistency was good. I know not at all โsurvivalistโ, but it tasted really good scooped on flatbread with Greek yogurt, chopped fresh coriander, and a squeeze of fresh lime. The portion is large enough for two. I really enjoyed eating this.

Very good taste, but strong
A hut too spicey for me, but thatโs just me. Not artificially flavored. Mix it with chicken and youโve got a delicious meal at home or at camp

It's edible!
These are always hit or miss, this flavor specifically or anything with rice you will want to make sure that you wait a little extra longer when cooking it.

Shelf life not as expected
Be careful if you are looking for long shelf life. Just got my package on Nov 2022, the expiration date is on Oct 2024.

Cheap and good
!!!First note: This takes more like 25 - 30 minutes to fully cook. I opened the pouch with my boiling water after 15 minutes and there was still a lot of water and undercooked rice and beans. I am a solo back country hiker so I don't want to sit in one spot too long, so needed to pack it up and move on. After a while I pulled it out and it was fully cooked. This is one of the cheapest full meals I've found for backpacking. I also really appreciate a wholesome plant-based recipe. This meal is full of calories and protein. It tastes quite good and is satisfying. Spicy in a great way!

Warning, Shrinkflation has struck Backpacker's Pantry!
This was one of my favorite meals from one of my favorite brands but no longer! Package size has shrunk by 27% (164g new package vs. 224g old), price has increased, and recipe has changed. Raise the price if you have to but we need the calories when we are hiking! Such a shame, this was really good, too, but I refuse to purchase again on principal. I will not purchase from a brand that shrinks their product and expects us not to notice. It's deceitful and unethical. I haven't had orange juice in years! I thought at first they sent me the single serving size, but nope, this is still being marketed as two servings. Ha! The old bigger size was even a stretch trying to feed two people, but not a chance any longer. And look at those sodium levels... they were already high to begin with but now they've shrunk the size and kept the sodium levels basically the same. So it's a lesser quality product, to boot. I haven't tried the new ones yet but I'll bet the new formula probably doesn't taste the same, either. Hard pass!
