I have a KJ Classic 2 (I'll write a review, last one Amazon failed to accept it and I lost the page. That'll teach me to do a long and detailed review...) Anyway, the Classic 3 comes with this basket. the Classic 2 doesn't and has a cast-iron circular grate at the bottom of the firebox. This is superior, and one of the first upgrades to do especially if you do low and slow cooking as you get more air, and ashes fall down more easily. This is built like a tank, super heavy, and impressive. And this rapidly looks really old, as the temp of the fire gets a lot of the shine away... Pros: improved airflow, easier to shake, easy to move all coals (lift the basket) to make some space to go clean up the ashes. Cons: expensive, and any small bit of charcoal (yes, even quality lump charcoal has some small chunks, plus the big blocks you burn become small as they are consumed) fall through. So this might waste a bit of charcoal.

More expensive than the other choices available but you will see and feel the difference as soon as you open the box. Very high quality-I highly recommend this for your KJ grill

Quit scraping your fingers across the stock cast iron grate in hopes of getting enough air to properly ignite your charcoal. Do it already. This thing is great. Chunk the stock grate in the trash and feel good about it. Don’t look back.

I am new to Kamado grilling but in my humble opinion this is a not an optional accessory. It is so useful for airflow and multi-zone cooking that it's a little surpising (and annoying) that it does not come as standard equipment. Be that as it may, like the rest of the Kamado Joe, it is very solidly built and should last years and years. If you just got your grill you need to order this and the cover.

Very sturdy original Kamado basket fitting my classic Kamado Joe II as expected. This will definitely enhance the heat flow. Good value for a great piece of kit.

We bought Kamado Joe Classic 2 years ago and spent a lot of time, lot of charcoal and of course lot of money to get the temperature we needed to grill. We found out about this basket on the internet and since buying it, our Kamado Joe grill is the best summer item we have. It is extremely easy to get the fire and wanted temperature in a significantly shorter time with several times less charcoal. So, much better grilling experience with significantly lower price and lower CO2 footprint as well. Highly recommended, even if it is kind of expensive. According to our experience, this basket should be integral part of Kamado Joe Classic grill, even if it could make it more expensive. Or, at least, uppon buying Kamado Joe Classic it should be recommended to complete our grill with it because it is definitely worth buying.

I was having trouble with the kamado Joe stock cast iron charcole grate not letting enough air into the fire chamber. The kamado Joe coal basket makes a big difference in fire breathability and clean up. I'm now getting good, clean burns on my charcoal and nice blue smoke. Fit is a little tall, but I always put my heat deflectors on the second level anyway, so not an issue for me. As the other reviews have noted, this basket is very well built & heavy duty.
