I keep reading waterproof does not mean urine proof.** A: Hi Mary Beth~ good question. Even though I bought this to protect my new mattress & pillows from my "night sweats", it turns out that the product has also worked very well at repelling recent urinary incontinence accidents from my geriatric cat. While the amount of urine leaked may be different from cat to human, I immediately removed all of the bedding after one of my kitty's accidents and the mattress was absolutely dry. As a side note, I use Nature's Miracle Urine Stain Remover along with my regular detergent in the washing machine and it works great! (Keep in mind if your buy the mattress protector, the use of bleach and a hot clothes dryer is not recommended). The product is found here in the Pet Section and is the best thing I've ever used for removing occasional cat accidents. I don't see why it wouldn't work for human animals either!
