This is a toy gyroscope, not a scientific instrument gyroscope. scientific instrument gyroscopes can balance for like 10 minutes and longer, but they are not toys. If you drop either kind of gyroscope it could introduce a vibration that makes it balance for less time. **Q: Is it supposed to be so noisy?** A: Mine was not particularly noisy. **Q: Where is this product made? are the instructions clear? tia** A: There are two holes on the wheel, put the string through ONE of the holes, hold your gyroscope side ways, and let the ring fall and create tension with the string that went through the hole (don't forget to hold the string at the other end). With the gyroscope sideways, and the ring dangling, use both hands to roll up the gyroscope; make sure it rolls up near the big wheel of the gyroscope, and not near the cage or you risk breaking it. Once it winds up, pull the string. The result is that the inner wheel is spinning, make it stand on the metal pointy legs as is, or you can put it on the metal base they provided. If the string gets frayed at the end, try melting some candle wax and dip the frayed end to keep it together (only the tip of the frayed end).
