Review: A Recommendation about the Denazo 4490 Hiking Poles - Further Update: Denazo contacted me, and we will work together on a test of a second set of poles to check the durability of the graphite/tungsten tips, in case the first set I was sent was merely an anomaly. Except for the tips, the Denazo 4490 poles are, as I stated in my original review (below), thoughtfully designed. Denazo is serious about providing the best product possible, and their representative has made it clear that any problem I have encountered will be addressed and solved. This is excellent service and dedication, and I am pleased to restore my five-star rating, subject to the durability of those tips in further use. Update after one month of steady use: the carbide tips of the Denazo 4490 hiking poles snapped off on the ice. I could not find replacement tips from Denazo, wherever they are, and tried to fit ski pole carbide tips over the ends. It was more trouble than it was worth. I recommend buying hiking poles that have replacement parts because you know that rubber tips and carbide tips are going to wear out. Denazo's poles are well designed but really need to supply replacement parts that fit their particular poles. I chose the Denazo 4490 hiking poles because they have obviously been designed on the basis of hikers' actual experience and suggestions for an excellent all-purpose design. They also represent a good value for such a high-quality set of aluminum poles with proper top grips and foam grips underneath them for steep climbs. The double grips mean one does not have to change the lengths of poles on awkward terrain. Here in Minnesota's winter, I especially appreciate the ice-chipping tips, which seem more robust than those on most other hiking poles. In sum, these are well-designed, well-balanced, lightweight poles that inspire confidence in their durability; and all this is at an attractive price. Review: Great, but one flaw - I very much enjoy this product. My friend turned me on to hiking poles. I never considered using them before, but found them very useful and this product of very good quality. I do however have a complaint, the soft tips that you use most commonly get lost very easily. I lost one on my friend's set of poles, I lost -both- of mine, and my girlfriend lost one of hers. What I mean by lost is just during a hike they come off, in my case some soft mossy ground just sucked them up never to be found again. Now I'm left with the hard pick-style tips, which are a big no-no in Arches National Park as you can damage the large rocks that are the foot-paths. I really wish the soft tips threaded onto the pole's tips, but they do not. Can I get improved replacements?

Not great
I fell for the super discount and assumed that the product was worthy of the original price. Not so. The "cork" handles are more plastic than cork and the straps are cheap with the buckle being right where the wrist rests, so they are not very comfortable. The poles themselves are light which I hope doesn't turn out to mean feeble. I'm not initially impressed.

Solid and a good price ...
Well made, attractive graphics, comfortable grips. My only objection is the plastic material used for the tip protectors is too slippery for hard surfaces; I would suggest including a set of rubber tips and adjust the price accordingly. REVISION TO MY REVIEW - After 5 months of use, the cam assembly in one of the lower shafts got loose and the press fitted stud came out; industrial adhesives haven't worked. Unless I can return it for exchange it will end up in the garbage. HAPPY TO SAY DENAZO CAME THROUGH!! - I did send an email to Amazon about my damaged, unrepairable pole; they in turn forwarded my email to Denazo, who immediately contacted me. After a couple of exchanges explaining what the problem was, Denazo offered to send me a new set of poles, which I received last Saturday. It's great to find a company with solid customer support, and I wish the best for this young company. To those of you non-believers who need spare parts or have issues with the product, use Amazon as your liaison and send an email requesting product refund/return. Explain clearly what the problem is; they will forward the email to Denazo; expect to hear from them a few days later.

I had high expectations yet was very disappointed; wished I had just got a regular wooden ...
The day after I got the poles in the mail, I went on Meguntikoot trail, a trail that I have hiked multiple times with ease. The poles performed well for the first 40 mins or so. Then one of the poles broke and I fell; a very minor fall, no injuries, just fell on my well padded butt. I had high expectations yet was very disappointed; wished I had just got a regular wooden stick after this experience.

spend more
I bought these hiking poles at the current price point feeling they should be good enough to hold up to light to medium hiking. I was wrong. They lasted one hike (1.5 hours). The next time I took them out the pole collapsed inside itself. I attempted to re-set the pole to the correct length then tighten in place. While tightening it stripped and will no longer stay at my desired length. I pulled them apart and noticed the only thing keeping the poles at the correct height is a plastic expanding washer, much like a wall anchor. I like the weight of the poles just unhappy I can't really use them both together anymore.

Great poles, loose tips
I would give the poles 5 stars as I love their feel, weight, adjustment options and two types of handle material. However, a tip fell off on my first hike with them... Fortunately I had purchased a replacement set. Then within a half hour another had fallen off! There went my whole replacement set (not cheap if this keeps happening). If anyone knows of replacement tips that fit these poles SNUGLY and don't come off, I'd like to hear about them.

Denazo to the rescue
I live in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in NC and I work in town. This year we had a number of sudden snowfalls that stranded me a half mile from my house when I rushed home at the first signs of snow. I had to park my car just off the road and hike in half a mile (mostly uphill) in order to get home. While for most folks around here that's no big deal, but I am 69 and had hip replacement surgery last year so for me it is a bit more than just a challenge. After the first time it happened (and all I had was a simple single walking cane) I got online and researched hiking poles. I am so very pleased with my Denazo Anti-shock/All-terrain poles...They are easy to adjust to length and I appreciate how compact they are when compressed. The cork handles are comfortable and I appreciate the design that allows for different hand positions and I like the wrist straps. The anti-shock feature is great too. These poles made a huge difference in my experience the next time I got stranded. I keep them in my car at all times now. I felt much more stable and supported and safe. Now that spring is approaching I look forward to using them for FUN hikes. Thank you Denazo.
