Protected from damage by plastic wrap

This is not a review of JA's writings, but of Penguin's design and the quality of their product. The books arrived in a sturdy shipping box, but there was some denting and bumps of the clothbound storage sleeve/box and the spine of one book. One designed section on the sleeve (the clothbound sleeve all the books are stored in) has been worn off. All this despite the collection being plastic wrapped. The sleeve is quite unsubstantial in strength for such a heavy collection of books, but perhaps I am nitpicking there. The book covers are lovely, to be sure, but indeed are marred on the back by the presence of the ugly sticker, or, if you remove the sticker, the presence of a glue stain. Each book has a nice ribbon bookmark attached to the binding. The paper quality is very nice. The papers are substantial and a soft almond cream color with clear font print. Easy on the eyes. I have been reading Persuasion for a few days. The title print and 'penguin classics' on the spine (not the feather design, and both covers are fine) is wearing off, which is obviously not ideal. I don't handle my books with kid gloves, but I do not abuse them either to the point where the lettering on the spine should be rubbing off after a mere few days of handling. At this rate, I anticipate all the books may lose their spines' titles depending on how frequently they are read. The set is very pretty, and I am happy to have them, but I wish the quality matched their prettiness.

I have been thinking about ordering this set of books for a while now. I am a big Jane Austen fan and wanted a beautiful set to display and also to re-read. After reading many reviews for this set, I was hesitant because many of the reviews had very bad covers with paint missing on the cover printing and stickers that left spots when removed. I got my set today and am very pleased that none of this was true with the set that I received. The set was wrapped nicely in plastic. When I took the plastic off and looked at each book in the set, they were in perfect condition and none of them had any stickers on them.

Beautiful editions- I bought these as a gift for my sister. I cannot believe the great price of these books. No matter how many times I read them, I'm always ready to read them again. As you get older, you really appreciate some of the supporting characters more- there is always something you've overlooked in previous readings that come to the foreground- orat least so I have found.

Una colección de las obras de Jane Austen hermosa e irresistible! Encuadernados de telas con estampados preciosos, hojas gruesas, notas, prólogos y presentaciones de cada libro en su interior de la época en qué salieron las obras originales. No tienen etiquetas de precios en los libros por lo que no tuve el problema de que al despegar se fuera el estampado. Creo que han tenido en cuenta este aspecto.

Ideal para fans de Jane Austen

I'm not reviewing Jane's wrok. The shipment was ok and the general look of books too. There weren't any stickers on te back and books are well made except those tree. The P and P hurts me the most, that dent on pages and also this ridge but i was expecting something worst based on opinions. If u're not scared to spend some money on books and on the covers then spend it but dont be surprised with a few damages. I've seen a lot of reviews about descening print. Nothing is coming of yet but we will see. However i have to admit the covers are rly pretty and the pages too. The font is perfect. I would say that the inside is compensates the damages on the outside.
