I really impressed
I enjoy the sound that produces the Loft 40. I'm using a set for my surround back and another for the sides on my 7.1 system, connected to my Yamaha RX-V579 receiver, I have the Loft 50 towers in front and The loft 20 in the center. These speakers have everything, elegant, strong and clear sound. I love the highs never get overly sharp or bright compared to the competition, you can spend a full day listening to them and it does not cause fatigue. At first I had the loft 30 which I liked a lot, but I replaced them with the Loft 40. What a difference it fills my 15 x 12 room with aplomb. It really sounds like twice its price. I recommend the loft 40 for those who like the JBL sound without bulky speaker. Now my set up is complete and I love them all.

Big sound in a small package.
It is easy to underestimate these speakers, because they are rather small. For over two years. I used them as rear surround speakers in my 5.1 setup. Recently, I decided to try them with a Pioneer Elite 2 channel receiver. This setup was to provide the audio for a 47” LG HDTV. I wasn’t expecting much, but was quite impressed. The highs did not come as a surprise, but the amount of bass did. Real nice full, crisp sound with enough bottom end to satisfy. Not wall shaking bass that comes with larger and bigger speakers, but enough to get the job done well. I am not going to try to sell hardcore audiophiles on these speakers, but I do think they will be a pleasant surprise for anyone looking to save some $$$ and needing a small speaker setup.

Decent little speaker
So,I have these speakers hooked up to a Sherwood av receiver and they sound pretty good.if you push them they start to break up a bit but that could be my receiver.i currently have jbl es 80s on my main system and love the jbl sound which is why I bought these .if your looking for a set of computer or game room speakers these are the ones.although bottom end of the legendary jbl sound they still sound very good to the ear .

I became overly-curious as to what a pair of $80 JBL bookshelves would sound like, so I bought the LOFT 40's
Going back to the 70's, I was never in the JBL band camp. Back then I chose BIC Venturi Formula 6 & 4's over the JBL's and never looked back. Now, 40 odd years later, I became overly-curious as to what a pair of $80 JBL bookshelves would sound like, so I bought the LOFT 40's. I coupled them with an Onkyo TX NR-414 Receiver and a Pioneer SW-8MK2 sub woofer, all moderately priced equipment, ideal for the room and usage I planned for them, background music and DVD's. Just for comparison, I have Carver and Velodyne driving my main system, Polk Audio in another and Boston Acoustics in still another. I can't think of anything I else I have in this price range that sound this good. Maybe a little TOO crisp for my tastes, but that's easily adjustable. Very clear, no sibilant 'ssssss at the high end. Sound better than a speaker this light in weight should. About as much bang for your buck as you could hope for, especially if your living space is tight.

BANK FOR THE BUCK!
Great bang for the buck. Unless your listening in a studio with acoustic foam on the walls, floor, and ceiling, you won't be able to tell this speaker from speakers that cost 10 times more. All the accuracy and sound you need. And the JBL name is a name you can be proud of. To use a car analogy, JBL may not be Ferrari quality, but it's entry-level Mercedes to me, and the price of these things is more like Ford Focus. In other words—GREAT VALUE! Best part is they look sharp in your living room. They have a nice design that doesn't look cheap. Some of the really expensive speakers have goofy looking designs. I don't want my speakers to draw attention to themselves. I just want them to blend in to the room and sound great. These speakers look great *AND* sound great.

Excelent Little Bookshelf Speakers
Great little speakers, for so little cost. They sound great Hooked up to my Yamaha R-S201 100 watt 2 channel stereo receiver. Good clear Highs & good bass output, without any port noise. These are well worth the $ 65.00 I payed for them in May 2016. I think anyone would be happy with the excellent JBL speakers.

BEST for the $$$ you can get!!!
I am very judgmental of speakers and am an audiophile. I did not think these speakers would sound all that great and bought them for my garage. I couldn't have been more wrong!!!!! These speakers sound GREAT. I do wish they had a little more bass so I am going to pair them with a sub. the highs are crystal clear and the mids sound very natural. The bass is punchy and tight but not very deep. I am powering them with a cheap Dayton amp and they sound great with it. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a nice pair of small speakers for a great price
