It clogs the pores if the material and creates a coating which makes the towels not absorb anything. Actually I've been reading about dryer sheets and fabric softener and they really shouldn't be used on clothes either. They eventually damage the fibers in the clothing. Hotels never use fabric softener or dryer sheets, neither do hospitals. **Q: Where are these made?** A: I'm sure they are not from this country. They don't look like our towels. The edges are serged, like little x's on all the edges not looking like our towels. Having said that, my granddaughter loves the way they feel so we kept them. I'll see how they hold up when they are washed a few times. Don't think they will. I wouldn't buy them again. **Q: anyone have any fading problems first time washing these towels and should I wash them in cold or hot water and with other towels or seperately?** A: No fading - washed in warm water with other light colored clothes!
