Jacquard's Procion MX fiber reactive dye powder is best used as fabric dye for cotton, linen or other natural, plant-based fibers. It can be used with other fibers such as wool, alpaca, leather, and other protein-based fibers, however the tie dye dye solution should be mixed with either vinegar or citric acid for best results. Before application, your fabric or material should be soaked in a solution of one cup of soda ash to one gallon of water for about 20 minutes. This makes the clothing dye permanent and creates a washfast result. To get an even, brilliant color, use a ratio of one cup to 2 teaspoons of dye. This can be modified by diluting the mixture to create soft, dreamy pastels or increasing the concentration of dye to create deeper colors. The tie dye colors can also be mixed to create the perfect shade for your project! The dye powder goes a long way, as one 2/3oz jar will dye approximately 1lb of dry fabric. I found a recipe card on the Jacqard website. It shows how much of each powder to make a certain color. Very cool!! For a 4-6 oz bottle, you only need about 1-2 teaspoons of dye. **Q: How colorfast is this dye? Can the resulting fabric/clothes be washed with warm water?** A: I have washed the shirts that I have Dyed in warm water and the color has remained bright and Distinct. **Q: Is it possible to use this on clothing? Does anyone know how many t-shirts this will make?** A: I used it on plain white t shirts and made 9 with one teaspoon of powder. Had to purchase it separately. - The directions provided are highly insufficient. - Clothes get colored in a very inconsistent manner. Some place it is dark and some place it is light. You cannot wear the resulting cloth outside. It can either be used as night dress or to mop floors.
