I love this thing — it’s the first tool I grab on any electrical call. You never know what kind of circus you’re walking into or what kind of “expert” you’re working behind. This little tester rides in my front pocket, the flashlight’s bright, the sound is loud, and it has one job: telling me if today’s the day I get zapped or go home for dinner. It’s funny how small it is for something that literally keeps you alive.

I use a lot of these types of indicators and this Klein NCV has the same issue that all of the others have... the probe end is too short. These are used a lot by the inspection business and they are invaluable. The downfall is that the probe end being too short, it is not always usable for 250V plugs like for Dryers or Ovens. I have had to result to using a dummy plug to put into the receptacle and then use this NCV to check each hot leg of the dummy plug cord to look for voltage. IF the end were longer, it would go deep enough into the receptacle to be able to pick up indication that the receptacle is hot. That being said, the tester does exactly what it says it can and it is lightweight for sure. I just think that the average pirce of about 20 dollars US is a bit high for what is provided. The flashlight is minimal for sure but may help in a pinch to not require a flashlight in the other hand too.

Not much to say about this. Given that Klein is basically the golden standard if you're not going Fluke, but anyone reading this probably already knows that. I would have perfered some kind of cap on the "nose" rather than just the "sensor tip" exposed during storage... But these things are supposedly durable, so we will see. The flashlight isn't anything to write home about, but it's better than needing two hands/headlamp/worklight etc. Cant really ever have too much light if you can just turn it off, so it helps. Again accuracy should be on par with reputation. I tested out the sensitivity and it was quick at a respectable distance. I'll update if something egregious occurs but otherwise this is just what would be expected.

I wanted this primarily to detect 24v ac voltage presence in underground irrigation valve wiring, and for that use and the usual 120v ac home wiring, it works fine.

Very easy and safe to use and compact. Great value too! I used it to test current when switching AC thermostat. Also help me diagnose to find wiring problem
