The best paint to use on this product is acrylic paint, however you can use any kind of paint depending on the finish you want. For example, if you want to see the wood grain through the paint, you may want to use more of a stain rather than paint. Hopefully this answers your question.

Will take either oil based or water based stains as well as any arts and crafts acrylic paints.

Thanks for your question, the units can be painted using any paint you want, however we find for best results, acrylic paint works best. We have also used spray paint for wood which works really well. With the spray paint, you will probably have to use a primer, or buy a two in one primer and spray. The unit comes sanded, however you may want to give another light sand depending on the finish you want. You will also need wood glue/ pva glue to stick on the handles and the numbers.
