Squids 3002 Retractable Tool Lanyard with Locking Carabiner, Straps to Attach to Belt or Harness, Gray, Standard

First off I'm not using this for its designed intentions. I'm using this as a line tensioner for a custom made downrigger system on my fish boat. And it's perfect for my application. It's compact and well made. It provides smooth consistent tension deployed at 3" or 36". Also if you need to mount it permanently the velcro slots provide excellant mounting options. A couple things to know, the generous advertised 48" length is the total overall dimension not the distance the lanyard will extend. Unfortunately for my application I also needed to remove the fancy locking carabiner and the only way to do that was with my Dremel and a cutoff wheel!

Definitely worth the money Very durable and definitely comes in handy when working on the lake. Highly recommend. This product has definitely picked up a few drills that have fell deep in the water

Purchased an "Ergodyne Squids 3002 Retractable Tool Lanyard with Locking Carabiner, Straps to Attach to Belt or Harness, Gray, Standard". The orange "safety" collar is spring loaded such that you have to rotate 90° and hold it in that position to open the carabiner. However, the spring in my collar failed after a dozen uses and the collar freely rotates. I removed the carabiner and attached a much smaller clip that I attach to a tether tab on my phone, and it is a great solution for this. My phone weighs 8.71oz and the reel does not retract with the phone dangling, which is perfect for my usage.

Kept my tools in place.

I have always been the guy that can break the “unbreakable”. If I don’t destroy the product, it’ll get broken by daily use, crushed getting packed in the work truck or the new guy will leave it on the job-site. I fully use the product multiple times before submitting any review to give an honest opinion about my purchase. This lanyard works great keeping the line from getting tangled and keeping your tool handy. I used mine for about two weeks and the Velcro peeled away from the strap….bummer….but to be fair I was using it daily in 100+ degree temperatures in the desert while climbing/working on a tower. I might get another one and see if it holds up better. Otherwise I’ll just stick to the cheaper bungee lanyard ones the company supplies to us. Conclusion: 50/50 on recommendation

Great for working in high places, And keeping your tools close by. Keeps you from going up and down when things fall out of your hand. Also keeps people safe under you as you work.

This product is junk..I was very disappointed .pulled the string on second pull and it didn't retract..poor coil spring..its a kids toy if i have to say..dont buy if intended for work.

So I must admit I haven’t used it at work, so this is a preliminary review. I was expecting the tether to be metal and that’s on me I guess I didn’t read enough. I guess I expected it for almost $60. The whole device is plastic and the tether itself is a rope type material which im worried about. I will use this for rebar and mesh tying and it will be exposed to concrete as well. I’m worried about the tether not being able to withstand contact or abrasion. If I could have this with a metal construction and a metal wire it would be ideal. I’m giving it 4 stars as it functions as they say and would be useful. I’m just concerned about durability and longevity as well as value
