Summer Wars: Material Book

Im so happy that i got this book its great for me as a fan of summer wars & it arrived in great condition !! Awesome !

man i'm so thrilled with this book & it was in mint condition just like i hoped. i'm gonna show everyone i know! it even has a bit of the background of making the motion picture. definitely one for the anime art enthusiast. :)

Summer Wars: Material Book is the companion artbook for Summer Wars, the animated movie directed by Mamoru Hosoda. The original edition is サマーウォーズ完全設定資料集 which is in Japanese. Udon has translated the book into English. The first section looks at the character designs. This film has a rather huge cast, and surprisingly they are all family members, except Kenji. That's 30 characters, including the dog Hayate. The designs are in line art form before they are coloured anime style. Character designer is Yoshiyuki Sadamoto Next is the world of OZ. It's a rather big world with lots of things going on but the designs here are printed smaller, relatively speaking. All the props that appear are also too small, basically the items that are on the shelves. Then there are the many fun and interesting crowd avatar designs. Avatars with more screen time have additional pages of art. That would be for King Kazuma, Love Machine, Kenji, Natsuki and the others. The back half of the book covers the environment art which consist the props, pencil layouts of the house and the colour painted versions. The detailed background drawings are mostly of the house, designed to be historic looking, and certainly looks very inviting. It would be so cool to live in such a house. Also included is an interview with Mamoru Hosoda. Throughout the book are rather brief commentary on the designs. It's a nice book to get if you're fan of the film. Les éditions "UDON", connues pour leur différents art books déjà sortis, notamment pour Street Fighter. Ont ici fait un super boulot!...Un vrai job propre et fait avec le coeur, et ça fait franchement plaisir. Le livre est bien imprimé, bien fait, fourmille de dessins très détaillés, des personnages en passant par les props, et les décors sublimes!!...Visibles en lay out noir et blanc et en couleurs! Agrémenté d'une interview du réalisateur, assez intéressante et tout en anglais svp. J'étais dégoûté de ne pas avoir pu chopper la première édition au Japon, et je ne regrette pas cet achat, de part son prix abordable, maniable, format souple et que vous regarderez sans fin, comme le film.

Excellent book with beautiful concept artwork.

Das Buch lässt die Herzen der Fans einfach höher schlagen! Ich bin selber ein riesen SUMMER WARS Fan und finde das Genial. Man hat eine detaillierte Sicht auch alle Figuren ausdem Film und zudem auch noch eine kleine information auf die Persönlichkeit! Frühere Entwürfe, sowie ein Text was der Regisseur sich bei dem Erschaffen des Films gedacht sind hier enthalten. Wer des englischen mächtig ist wird hieran seine freude haben! :-)

Many images of scenes from the movie as well as character images including various versions of characters present in the movie as well. Would’ve been nicer as a hardcover book, the spine is a little too stiff for a paperback book, decent sized overall, a joy to own and admire.

Loved the film and so took a punt on the art of book - it's smaller than the other art of books i have, I don't speak Japanese so the chances were that i could only look at the pictures. But the text is in English, good quality reproduction and interrviews and sketches, paintings etc. if you liked the film then get the book - the avatars and their VR world are well represented in the artwork printed in the book - a great companion piece to the film (get the film on blu-ray - worth it!)
