The 5.7L V8 has a lot of torque (which I like), but it is a little more sensitive than what my wife enjoys (this is her everyday driver). Six weeks Prior to installing the Econoaid, I installed new Continental CrossContact LX20 275/55R20XL and had a four-wheel alignment done, as well as a new air filter and oil change. With these changes, over 1300 miles of mixed driving (freeway and city) my wife’s mpg average increased from 11.6 mpg to 13.9 mpg. That is 13.9 mpg BEFORE the Econoaid, which I used as a baseline. I have looked into cold air intake systems that allegedly smooth throttle response and improve engine aspiration, but they average $250-500. I thought 30$ would be worth it if I could get at least 1-2 mpg gains. The installation was simple if you have some mechanical experience. I was a mechanic in college so this only took about 7-8 min (I grew up to be an engineer). Important note: the whistling sound experienced by many that install high flow air filters or cold air intake systems is caused by a wire mesh/screen mounted on the engine side of the Econoaid per the instructions I recieved. Upon further observation, this wire mesh/screen acts to create turbulent flow as air enters the throttle body, and is hemispherical in shape in order to allow free rotation of the choke plate in front of it. In another review of a cold air intake system, a person “clipped the wire ends to remove it and stop the whistling sound”, which I read after I installed the Econoaid. The entire premise of the Econoaid is to do exactly what the wire mesh accomplishes as installed by the factory, which is to create turbulent air flow and thus, improve fuel/air mixing efficiencies and boost economy. Had I known the wire mesh was already there, I would not have purchased the Econoaid. On another note, the wire mesh is simple to remove and does not need to be clipped/destroyed, though it will leave a small hole in the intake tube that would need to be filled with silicon if removed. After an additional 1300 miles of mixed driving with the Econaid, we are averaging 13.7 mpg. Any change in the throttle response is negligible for either my wife or me. Summary as stated in the headlines: no fuel economy gains, no throttle response improvement, and certainly not worth 30+$. ### ⭐⭐ Rethink this purchase..... *by C***S on June 10, 2015* On the first use I had a jump in mileage but after a while it's like it doesn't exist. They make costlier versions which may perform better its just that I have not used any others to compare. As they say.....
