## Overview

The Kaffir Lime Tree Starter Plant (Citrus hystrix) is a hardy, aromatic citrus tree native to Southeast Asia, delivering intense citrus fragrance and culinary leaves. Measuring 3”–5” at purchase, it grows up to 12 feet and adapts to indoor or outdoor environments, even in USDA zone 3 climates thanks to thermal packaging. Each purchase includes a free seed and Osmocote plant food, ensuring a thriving start for your tropical garden.

## Description

This Kaffir lime tree starter plant will produce Citrus hystrix (makrut lime) fruit in approximately 2 years depending on the climate where you live. Each tree measures approximately 3” - 5" from top of soil to the highest leaf. They can vary in size, but are quick growing, so even a smaller plant will be considerably larger in a couple of weeks. It can be planted outside if you live in a warm, arid climate, a greenhouse, or indoors with appropriate UV sunlight bulbs, if you live in a colder climate, such as our beautiful Maine. These hardy trees will adapt to any surroundings. The makrut lime fruit is native to tropical Southeast Asia and Southern China. Its fruit and leaves are used in Southeast Asian cuisine, and its essential oil is used in perfumery. Its rind and crushed leaves emit an intense citrus fragrance. These Southeast Asian tropical fruit trees are proudly grown in Bangor, Maine. Each plant is wrapped in thermal bubble wrap, to protect against freezing temperatures in transit. Adopt one today.

Review: Came healthy and happy - I bought 2 in early summer. They grow pretty slowly. One caught a little bit of mold or fungus, but is doing just fine. The other has been bright green and completely healthy for the last couple of months. Very few new shoots, but that's the plant for you. The seller sends you a perfectly acceptable plant with good instructions. Just take it slow and steady and don't go crazy with these guys and they'll do just fine. Picture 1 shows the plant that has mild problems on the bottom and the super healthy one on top. Picure 2 shows the new growth after about 3 months. I haven't learned the plants and their needs yet, but the seller gives you a solid starting point.
Review: Little tree as described - Arrived carefully packed. There was a free seed and some fertilizer. Plant looked very fresh. At one point I thought it was a plastic because it was looking very shiny. So I waited for over 2 weeks to see any growth. Finally a new leaf has sprouted. My little tree looks happy 😀👌. I am going to germinate the free seed that came with the shipment. Will be updating if any results. I was told by someone that the price was too much. Not sure if that is true. But I m happy with my little tree!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What kind of guarentee do you offer? Especially related to the viability of plant after transport?**
A: The plants are thriving in my greenhouse here in Maine, and each tree is carefully packed in soil in the pot, with enough water to survive transport. I recommend immediately watering the plant upon arrival, place in a well lit area of your home, and when it comes times to repotting as it grows, I use Better Homes and Garden's Natural & Organic Professional Container Mix, and Osmocote fertilizer to enhance growth. I include a few tablets of Osmocote in your package, as well as an extra seed for new planting, as a free gift for you. These are the same seeds that I use to grow each plant. I have been selling these for quite a while, and the best guarantee I can offer is that every tree has survived shipping and its new home to date. Like everything in life, there is no certainties (especially in 2020) that I am aware of, except one. That being said, you are also being given a new seed, God forbid your new friend has a difficulty in transit. Is that fair?

**Q: Can you ship to California?**
A: Hi. We cannot ship to California from Maine, as it is not permitted under USDA Regulations. However, we operate a sister greenhouse in Los Felix (Los Angeles) for California customers, so your plant would be able to be delivered from there, usually quicker. They are identical to the ones grown in Maine, as they originated from California. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

**Q: What is the weight of this shipment?**
A: It varies on the weight of the attached soil, but it is approximately 1 pound.

**Q: Will this plant survive 10 hours in a mailbox during freezing temperatures?**
A: I’m sorry to say no, but it would be highly unlikely. At this time of year, all plants are shipped with charcoal activated heat packs, but they are at most 40 hours of heat, to protect against fluctuations in air temperature on planes. By the time of delivery, it is crucial to watch USPS tracking, to ensure the plant is not left unattended outside, especially if you live in freezing or high temperature locations. I wouldn’t want to see these little babies die at the last stage. I do sell seeds as well, if you are happy to try and grow the trees yourself. They can survive cold temperature at arrival better. Take care and stay warm. Gerald

### ⭐ Difficult to grow and, slow growth, then dead
*by C***A on December 1, 2022*

I had high expectations for this Kaffir based on the cost. I did exactly as instructed, didn’t transplant until the roots started showing out of the holes in the planter it came in. It did not grow much after transplanting. And then it started losing leaves. I didn’t over water, I sprayed the leaves every other day and watered a little once a week or when the medium was dry. Too bad it took more than 3x days to die or I would have asked for a return. I’d buy a taller version, but am afraid of losing even more money as these are not cheap.
