I have an assortment of stones with different lengths, widths and thicknesses, and this holds them all up and off my bench or countertop. It holds the flattening diamond plates too.The screws on the rubber block that tighten the block to the rails are fine. You don't need to lock in the stone super tight because sharpening is done with a top-to-bottom, up and down motion, not side to side, so the rubber block is there to prevent sliding up and down and not side to side.I used this jig extensively, sharpening every edge I have, while constantly changing stones to test the holders ability. All stones were secured and the holder is thick enough to get the stones up so you don't scrape knuckles while sharpening but not high enough to make it unstable.I got the smaller holder for countertop and bench use instead of a sink bridge style one. I wanted to be able to take it outside to my garage without it being too long or taking up too much space. I also use this for whetstones and for oil stones and I don't need a sink to sharpen any knife...I'm very happy with this holder. It's much easier than scraping knuckles or dealing with the flimsy silicone bases that comes with some stones. Cleanup is hot water wash and dry, super simple and quick. Whether it's oily schmutz or stone slurry, it washes right off the rubber and rails.If you use sharpening stones, flattening diamond plates, or are uncomfortable banging your knuckles while sharpening, this holder (and I'd imagine the larger ones from this same company) will make sharpening easier, more convenient, and all around more enjoyable. Happy sharpening everyone!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you’re serious about your knives and chisels, this is a “must have” tool *by R***T on February 18, 2022* Well made unit, locks in place well. Made from stainless sliding rods, machined aluminum blocks and solid aluminum knurled knobs that hold the whetstones and the unit itself in place in a sink (or a pan). It also comes with a hex (Allen) key to lock it down the blocks on the slide rails.I can see how some folks might not like the lack of rubber padding where this device contacts a metal sink because it could easily scratch a stainless sink.I went a different route - see the photo. I have a stainless pan that I use that is just over 14 inches wide, about 22 inches long and 7 inches deep. I use the pan to hold my various stones packed in foam and a squirt bottle. No sink scratching, it contains the mess and it will hold a smaller plastic container to keep my water stones soaking while I work.Truth be told, I had used the pan as a litter box when my cats were kittens but they outgrew it. Yes, I cleaned and disinfected the pan before I converted it to a sharpening station. The pan is stainless steel with a non-stick coating inside.I use a combination of stones. My main stones are Japanese Natural stones - a Morehei Tsushima “Ocean Blue” and a finer ShoHonyama for finishing.I also use newer Shapton 1000, 5000 and 8000 grit ceramic stones (wet and go - no soaking), an Atoma diamond stone for lapping, a 2 sided leather strop on a handle and a 1000 grit diamond/steel hone for my chisels and shop tools. This stone holder works great for every one of the aforementioned stones.The pan is basically a portable sharpening center that I can use in my shop, kitchen or even a friends house to tune up their blades. It greatly reduced my waste as far as using paper towels and water, the mess I made on my countertop is eliminated, and it improved my method for sharpening since I wasn’t hitting my knuckles on my work area. I was a little skeptical when I got the product because it was so light but it is extremely sturdy. It came with all the screws, which is all you have to do is screw in the screws, move the blocks to fit your whetstone and sink and you’re in business. I’m a beginner sharpener and I’m sure someone who’s been doing this for 20+ years could have something else to say about this sink bridge but it works great for me and my skill level and environment. My only complaint is the rubber blocks are a little difficult to move, hence 3 stars on ease of use.
