Yes it will fit a Taurus 856. .38 special

Will this holster be a proper fit for a Taurus 942 2” Mag revolver ?

It should fit as the 942 is very similar to the SW J frame. However, this holster has NO retention properties. I do not recommend for concealed carry. In fact I would not purchase this holster again.

Will it fit a Taurus 605 poly protector?

The Taurus 605 seats very well within this holster. The poly may have added thickness but I think it'll be OK.
