This is typically used for cleaning marine chrome fittings. Leaves no residue like steel wool
Does not leave minute particles that will rust like steel wool. Since it is softer than steel wool, it will not scratch metals harder than bronze. "Boaters" that have a lot of chrome exterior fittings use this to maintain their bright work. Auto enthusiasts use this to clean their windscreens. You must clean your windscreen of "windshield" as the yanks call it, before using this on the windscreen. The purpose of this is to remove the find layer of oil that collects on the windscreen which all cars and trucks accumulate and eventually make the windscreen "smear" when you first turn on the wipers. It is not to be used on any painted surface. Motorcyclists also can use this on any Chrome over metal to clean up the chrome, whereas using 0000 steel wool "sheds" minute steel wool particles and can also produce minute scratches in the chrome plating.Since it is bronze it should not scratch chrome. Selecting the fine grade of bronze wool is the best choice for expensive chrome over metal on cars and motorcycles. I do not use this over chrome over plastic nor would I be willing to take a chance to do so. This "Fine" grade of Bronze wool can also be used on house windows to remove any residue like paint spatter rather than using a razor blade. It should never be used on any tinted film on windows or low emmissivity coatings on house windows.

Great Bronze Wool Being Used for Woodworking is Excellent!
This is exactly the product for which I was looking. I shall be putting it to use in a somewhat unorthodox manner; I teach a self-contained geometry class to high school girls who have learning disabilities. One of the things I have noticed is that they have trouble translating what they learn in the subject to the real world, so I designed a class in which we are applying what we are learning by building miniature furniture in detail, using everything we learn in geometry to design and build what I teach. Aside from being a doctoral candidate in Special Education, I'm a master cabinetmaker, so I know how to teach carpentry. The steel wool is to be used to rub down the items we build after giving it several coats of varnish in order to achieve a very smooth and professional finish. This steel wool is absolutely the perfect quality for that purpose and will not make uneven scratches in the finish of the wood surface on which we are presently working. It will help to smooth the wood perfectly to receive its final coats of varnish. As I said, a bit of an unorthodox use of the product, but that's why I bought it, and its quality is just that for which I was looking. If you are into woodworking, you'll love this bronze wool.

Fantastic at rubbing off rust without harming the metal!
Takes the rust right off without hurting the finish. A friend let me know about this stuff and boy am I thankful. I had a small bit of surface rust on a revolver from 1918. As you might imagine, I was very concerned about not harming the intact finish on the gun. Well this stuff did the trick! Using some Kroil and this bronze wool I was able to gently rub off the rust over an hour and a half and the gun looks great now (as great as it can with a little bit of finish missing). The rust is completely gone and the rest of the finish is no worse for the wear. If I had used even 0000 steel wool, I could not say the same. This is a must have tool!

Greatest thing since steel wool (Hint: It's rust-free)
I hate working with steel wool because it rusts so quickly. If you're using steel wool to remove the finish on wood, little bits of rusty steel can get into the wood and ruin the surface. I was very excited to find out that there was such as thing as bronze wool and immediately bought some to try. I've used it in my furniture refinishing projects for several months now and also to remove rust on metal. I've also started using it in place of kitchen steel wool pads, which become quickly become too rusty to use. Bronze is softer than steel, so bronze wool scratches less than steel wool of a comparable grade. Overall, bronze wool is a big improvement over steel wool for many applications, and I've already ordered more of the fine as well as some of the coarse grade. The only reasons for giving docking it a star are: 1) it's much more expensive than steel wool (yes, I would expect it to be more expensive, but IMO it's disproportionately so, although the price has come down since my original order) 2) because it's a soft metal, tiny fragments break off and can make a mess. Note: Bronze wool comes in fine (this one), medium, and coarse grades. I haven't seen the medium grade anywhere, but I've ordered the coarse grade and will post a review after I've had a chance to work with it. Here's a link the coarse grade in case anyone wants to compare: Bronze Wool

and enjoy not having AS MUCH dusting
Use this in place of steel wool, and enjoy not having AS MUCH dusting. The best part, is using this on glass to remove light water spotting. Light pressure, a bit of good glass cleaner, and some elbow grease leaves a brilliant gloss on glass and really removes the crap left there by your neighbors crappy sprinkler system. I made the move to bronze, because steel wool if not cleaned off completely will eventually cause rust spots to appear. Go to a car lot and look around the windows on used cars that have white/silver paint, you see those little rust specks? That's from steel wool when they detail the car. This doesn't leave those behind.

like it.
Bought this because I have an old 22 cal. revolver that someone gave me years ago that I had just "tossed" in a drawer....Found it one day, and it was all covered with surface rust...Not the deep pitting kind, just heavy outside rust. Got a lot of advise on how to get the rust off, but because of expense, I decided to do the job myself......All of the steel wool I have ever used was a royal pain in the butt...fine metal shavings everywhere, doesn't hold up, and of course the horrible rust it gets after you leave it in your tool box. Got this item and it was just what I needed...Took my time rubbing the metal parts of the revolver, and didn't get any shavings or metal "dust" as I would have with the steel wool.....It also seems to hold up better that the "steel" version......When I was done, the revolver looked like a different weapon......All the rust gone, and no metal "residue" left on it and inside the mechanism. Looked around everywhere to try to purchase it locally (wanted it in a hurry), but couldn't find it....In conclusion, there is no comaprison between this Bronze Wool, and regular steel wool. I live in Florida near the water, and EVERYTHING made of metal rusts....When I would use regular steel wool on anything, it left a mess and I would have to throw it away afterwards, because if it got wet it would turn into a blob of rust....Not with this bronze wool. It is expensive, but more than worth the price.....I can actually rinse it off from use, and it can be used again....In the long run, the cost is comparable because you aren't throwing the pad out after every use. My only complaint is that I couldn't get different sizes. Oh, and by the way, you don't get the little metal "slivers" in your fingers like you get with the steel wool.

Works very well for polishing metal, but I would ...
Works very well for polishing metal, but I would suggest using a dust mask when using it. I found that it actually did shed, leaving behind tons of tiny fibers, and you really don't want to breathe them. They caused my asthma to flair up, and an overall inflammatory reaction. Be careful when using.

Great for removing stains on UPVC.
I used this to remove rust stains on some UPVC Decking Posts together with some Pinkstuff Cream. Worked really well and didn't scratch the surface. Recommended.
