The purdy power lock poles interlock with it though and keep it from loosening. Also they are extremely well balanced. **Q: Is there an extension?** A: No. Unscrew the handle from your basic broom and use it. The course threads of your Purdy, most rollers and most broom handles are universal. Or go to hardware store to buy a cheap handle. Take your Purdy to test out what you buy, to make sure it fits. **Q: Is this plastic or metal?** A: Plastic & metal but it's light weight and durable... Im a painter so I paint like everyday using these only... it has two clips to hold it in place but it keeps sliding out. So I just put two metal screws to hold it in place. **Q: How does this attach to the rollers? Mine doesn’t have the ends that inserts into the roller.** A: Hi Carlie. I suspect you bought the wrong roller. The roller that fits this unique duck is 18" long and comes with the white plastic inserts in the ends with little holes in the middle. The pins on your Purdy would then fit into the little holes at the center of these. If you are using an 18" roller, can you return it? if not, you could pop the ends off of a regular roller (break it) and use the ends of it to fit in your roller. As I write this reply, I wonder if you are trying to use a 12" roller. Because most of them come without the white inserts. Not sure why the manufacturers decided to make these 18" units need to be different. I think that some of the others come like the 12", so maybe your roller is for those units. Google the Purdy 18" roller refill. It should show the insert I am speaking off good luck. If I am still wrong, maybe your Purdy is defective?
