Pretty Frank Natural Aluminum-Free Deodorant Paste, Baking Soda, Lavender

This simple “extra strength” deodorant works very well. It protects me all day and night from BO. They cooked with this one. But if you are sensitive to baking soda or have broken underarm skin, use caution. It could sting. I personally tolerate baking soda well. The base of this deodorant is candelilla wax and shea butter. When you apply it, it does leave a kinda shiny finish at first. It’s not uncomfortable. I only notice when I see it, I can’t feel it. It goes away and absorbs, only leaving behind the baking soda and arrowroot powder. The shea butter also made my pits so pretty and soft after using for a couple weeks too lol. This is an extremely effective product. I even mix it with other natural/aluminum free deodorants that are scented or have charcoal/magnesium and it gives them all an extra oomph! And you don’t need much, I expect this jar to last at least 3 months for me personally. I would absolutely buy this again. Works fantastic. Towards the middle of the jar I got some minor clumps of baking soda. There is a lot in this formula. But I just rubbed them in or dusted them off my pit. It wasn’t a big deal. This isn’t chemically perfected, toxic, cheaply mass produced, commercial deodorant. It’s simple, clean, natural deodorant that’s going to have some caveats. Especially if it’s melted and reset when it’s in transit or storage. The brand even says to not leave it in prolonged heat bc it affects the texture and distribution of the baking soda and arrowroot powder. If you’re concerned about this, and whether or not the product was properly stored, maybe buy directly off their website instead of hot Amazon warehouses. If yours melts in transit/storage and resets with clumps, you can gently reheat it in a warm water bath, thoroughlyyyyy remix it, and stir occasionally as it cools. I’m an ex natural soap and body product maker. I also like using my hand to put it on. I feel like the bamboo spatulas scrape off product or don’t distribute it as well. Or maybe my fingers body heat helps it melt in better. I just know I always get results using my fingers to rub it in. It’s easy to wash off your hands too.

Pretty Frank works really well. A little goes a long way. Use a little coconut oil first and it works even better. Happy to not have endless plastic. I keep a little in a small pouch in my bag. It’s great that it’s portable in that it’s not a stick or liquid. Clean, safe ingredients. Mild fragrance. Good quality.

I was using primal pit paste for five years and all through out the gym. It has no problems and I didn’t stink at all. Now this new rebrand, it’s COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. I wish I trusted the other reviews. It works for two hours then you stink. It was so embarrassing to be out in public when your deodorant fails on you. Do not buy!! Edit: I retested this deo for four more days to give it a chance. I noticed that with the new formula, I will start to smell within two hours. I was just working on my laptop for the two hours, so no strenous activity. The original primal pit paste lasted me through 12 hour shifts during surgery without me needing to reapply. I tried other brands like Lavinalla, Meow meow tweet, and little seed farms, so far none of them work. The search for a natural deo continues.

No smell but Works well.

I appreciate what they did here, but after years of trying to make this product work for me it just doesn’t. I don’t like how I have to use a tool or get it on my fingers. I’m also always stinky by midday unless I re-apply. Additionally, the bottom half of the jar never works as well as the top. I think because it melts and separates? I don’t know. But I noticed it consistently over years of use. Also if you’re somewhere cold it’s impossible to get it to soften up to use (I camp a lot and in cold weather I have to hold the whole jar under my armpit until it softens enough to even begin to try and scoop some. I like that it’s zero waste. I like that the ingredients are simple. It just doesn’t work for me. And the baking soda formula irritates my skin. Just tried Wild and found it much better.

This baking soda and fragrance free deodorant is the best product I have ever used. I survived breast cancer and a lumpectomy, and did not want to put on any chemicals under my arms after that. I’ve worn this deodorant in extremely hot weather, and never had a failure. I highly recommend this product and will keep on ordering it.

I just tried this new rebrand (from Pretty Frank back to Pit Paste) and I'm happy to say it works well for me. I've been applying it twice a day but it has also lasted me 24 hours without smelling (if I'm not active). It's a little crumbly in cold weather but I just warm it longer between my fingers. However, way back in 2017, I was OBSESSED with pit paste. I think that was the original formula and it was VERY effective (even just the regular strength). The "jacked up jasmine" smelled incredible and I loved it. When it rebranded to Pretty Frank, the efficacy was not the same and I got stinky quickly. I so wish they'd go back to the original pit paste. However, as a cosmetics enthusiast, I've recently learned that even a single ingredient *source* changing can change up an entire product, even if the formula is identical, so maybe they had no choice if their suppliers changed. Who knows? I'm just guessing. For now I'll repurchase this extra strength unscented, which is effective for me and keeps me stink free. Maybe they'll at least offer the jasmine in the future. 🙏
