I’m not sure what the app is, but it does have its own app that you can use to control the lights.

No, there are exposed pads that would short out if they were splashed with something conductive

Can you have different colors if the strips are separated?&

If you cut at the designated track markers, you could get some connectors that make it easy attach a bother controller. Which could a different color. You cannot program different track lengths without getting another controller for each section you want to. Also, if you trim off any additional length that is not at a cut mark, you could possibly damage that section of leds that is plugged in because it doesn’t complete a circuit somehow.
