Nana rules
This series just keeps getting better and better. Nana(Hachi) and her drama are really heating up. The whole situation with her and Takumi and Nobuo is cliffhanging heaven. The internal dialogue of Nana(Blast) has me wondering what happens to her little Hachi in the future...it's quite forboding. Anyway, if you're looking for angst on a more mature level this is the series for you.

This is where things start getting REALLY serious!
(HUGE spoilers ahead!!!) This manga for young ladies is about two Japanese girls sharing same names, age, and train seating. Now they are sharing the same apartment, too. Nana Komatsu (also nicknamed "Hachi" for her puppy-like behavior around her friends) is a cute but air-headed floozy who keeps shacking up with many different men in a misguided quest for "true love". Nana Osaki, on the other hand, is a beautiful but trashy-looking punk girl dressed in tiny miniskirts, ragged tops, and fishnet stockings even on the coldest winter nights. She, too is thirsting for some human warmth. Yet Osaki still has a very snarky attitude toward everyone she knows, including her very own band members and a VERY sympathetic friend who would always offer emotional support - whether she wants it or not. Yet Osaki just can't bring herself to snap at her own baby-faced roommate, Hachi. Instead, she has been magically won over by her child-like innocence. So were the rest of her band (a spiky-haired young member has actually became her devoted boyfriend.) Not only that; bubbly little Hachi has also drawn the wolfish attention of a certain good-looking rock star who resembles a lanky, long-haired vampire in dark shades. But this is no fangirl's dream. Instead, the kids are now facing a very stark reality of becoming a REAL, independent adult: an uninvited baby has suddenly happened and no one's ready for it and being forced to create generic songs for the young audience or else the aspiring rock band would very quickly become yesterday's news (and no more perks like a fancy car or staying at a fancy hotel, either.) And my, how Hachi's shrewish old friend from high school, Junko Saotome TORE INTO the sobbing girl about how she HAS to give up her youthful, carefree lifestyle altogether to care for a child who has been ironically caused by a youthful, carefree lifestyle to begin with. So time for a wide-eyed young waif like Hachi to buckle up and start acting like her own mother, who happens to be a self-sacrificing Japanese housewife who does everything for her kids... ...except for teaching them about the pitfalls of romance and safe sex, of course. Prettily drawn soap opera that features elegant young characters (most of them look heavily whitewashed) against what appears to be photocopied backgrounds in some places. And the story itself is really heating up at this point. (Cautious: some scenes may be rather sensitive to a few teen readers, BTW.)
