This arrived in full retail packaging, which is what I would expect from a brand the size of Honeywell. Everything needed for installation was included, including the mounting fasteners. Nothing was missing or damaged. I tested this on the bench for about a day before installing it, just to confirm operation. It worked exactly as expected. This is a very simple thermostat, and there is not much that can go wrong. The temperature switching was consistent and predictable during testing. Since this is an old school manual control, the reported temperature seems about as correct as I can tell. Based on prior experience with this style of thermostat, they are generally pretty accurate, but it is hard to ever know or prove exactly how precise they are. There is no fine-grain scale for setting or reading temperature, so you are working within a reasonable range rather than dialing in an exact number. This thermostat does not use any batteries. Because of that, there is no display brightness adjustment or extra configuration options. The only setting is the temperature where it activates the heat. Depending on how you want to look at it, the battery life is eternal, immortal, or infinite since there are none to replace. There are a couple of things worth noting. There is no dedicated button or lever to override the temperature setting and force the heat fully ON or OFF. If you want to do that, you need to slide the mode switch each time, or wire in your own external bypass if your setup allows it. Also, do not forget to open the cover and remove the cardboard insulating piece that prevents contact during shipping. If you skip that step, it will not function and may look defective at first. In my video, I show the switch operating several times to confirm proper operation. It would be very difficult to beat this value. You get a well-known brand name, warranty support, no batteries required, and an inexpensive price point. Overall, this is a basic, no-frills thermostat that does exactly what it is supposed to do and represents a very good value.

My gas fireplace insert wasn’t working. After doing some trouble shooting I figured out that the old mercury thermostat on the wall wasn’t working. This one was cheap and it took about 10 minutes to get it replaced. Fireplace works perfect now.

Connections are not the best I had to tweak it to make it work. Mercury switches were better.

I bought this to control the gas fireplace in the living room. It replaces a much less reliable Honeywell thermostat that was better at draining the batteries than it was at holding the room temperature. This unit has no batteries; it uses a bimetal spring that closes the contact when the room temperature is below the (mechanical) setting. It works very well that way, but it can also be used as an on/off switch: push the setting tab to the left (off) position to keep the contacts open or push it to the right and the fireplace (or your heater, if that is what it is operating) stays on until the room reaches 90F (a little over 30C). All this means the thermostat has no programmable temperature feature. If you get up in the morning and want a thermostat that will follow a program this is not going to work for you. (Our home has central heating / air conditioning that does the automatic stuff, but if I am going to watch TV in the chill of Flagstaff mornings the simple control of our fireplace I walk over to the thermostat and set it to about 73F. If I neglect to set it to "off" when it is time for me to get moving the minimum temperature of 73F is as cold as it will get. The rest is up to the HVAC.

it has cheesy little plastic tabs ( plastic the diameter of a sewing pin) I broke one right out of the box. One connecting screw was seized I thought I was going to break it getting it loose enough to get the wire under it. I bought it because it is HONEYWELL I guess that stands for nothing anymore.

We just wanted a basic thermostat for our garage and this is it! Most thermostats now are all digital and way more than we needed. It was easy to install and works great!

Nice product works very well for my gas powered fireplace. Replace the old switch and this was a perfect replacement. I will re-purchase this item again.
