The Social Contract (Penguin Classics)

Very good translation with excellent introduction by Alan Ryan. This edition includes in addition to the Social Contract, 1 Discourse on the Arts and Science, 2 Discourse on the Origin of Inequality, 3 Discourse on Political Economy, 4 The General society of the Human Race. Recommended edition and works.

I found it most enlightening. Having read the French version - albeit a long time ago as a student - this translation is fluent and easy. In my view, Jean Jaques Rousseau is underestimated as a philosopher and as a singularly good member of the Enlightenment. His phrase "Man is born free and everywhere is in chains.." resonates with much of what passes for democracy in today's world.

Thanks for this paperback book. It's perfect! No complaints at all.

This is the translation that I wanted so no problem withy the text. But the paper quality is very poor and I would expect it to turn yellow after a few years.

There a many interesting ideas contained in this book, although it is a dense read, as are other political science books, such as Machiavelli's prince or discourses, this book kept me very intertained. Used to write a paper for my political science book, I would recomend to anyone interested in politics and viewing things from a new perspective

Excellent prize for excellent quality

Great book, it is small and fits right in your hand. It is a good size book to take with you while you travel. Great topics to, of a great revolutionary mind which leaks some of the building blocks of our democratic republic.
