**Q: what size diameter carriage bolts fit the square holes?**
A: I used 1/4" stainless carriage bolts. I have a heavy aluminum gate and have had no problems.

**Q: how wide is the bolt holder flange, left to right?**
A: I’m not sure what part you’re referring to as the ‘flange.’  The wide plate snugly fits a 4x4 post, and the narrower bolt catch snuggly fits a 2x4 or a 2x2.

**Q: How does this adjust for misalignment? How much misalignment can it account for and is it suitable for an outdoor vinyl fence?**
A: it has lots of room for adjustment, I had no problem with it, I use it on vinyl fence door for an outside shower.  I think it can adjust up to about 1/2 inch

**Q: It’s hard to tell from the photo. But is there a hole for a padlock?**
A: Yes

I purchased The Only Self-Adjusting Slide Bolt Lock for a shed door that slightly expands and contracts with the weather.  The slide bolt and self-adjusting catch work well for my needs and I would recommend to anyone with similar needs.  I do suggest buying your own screws as the included ones are worthless. I hope this helps.

    Fabulous for stall doors!

Love these adjusting slide bolts for horse stalls...we switched old corroded ones to these. We live near salt water and the stainless steel holds up beautifully! Awesome product! Keeps horses in safely, however, we added trigger snap to lock inside the barn as our Arab has figured out how to open and get to grain tub! Ha! I did think they were a little pricey, but glad we made the switch!
