SHARPAL 127N Dual-Grit Diamond Sharpening Stone File

This is a very good knife sharpener tool. Very handy and works very well. Easy to use and I have sharpened a few of the kitchen knives up quite nicely with a very fine edge. It was a little rough at the start, especially on the corse side, but it doesn’t take long for it to smooth out. I keep it in the kitchen drawer and have been using just on those knives and will probably get another one for tools. I highly recommend this.

Great tool for sharpening scissors. I have some gingher embroidery scissors which were hard to sharpen. Google searches seemed to indicate that I needed to send them back to gingher to get them professionally sharpened. Since these are small, I thought I’d give it a DIY try. Following general online instructions, I think I did a good job. Also came with leather strop which doubled as a case for the sharpening stone. Very well made.

I cannot stand a dull blade, whether it is in the shop, kitchen, or outdoors. I really like my Smith's combination dual grit sharpening stone but it is wearing out and I never needed to sharpen a fish hook. I heard good things about Sharpal and their products so decided to try this. I am very pleased with the performance. There is a noticeable difference between the fine and coarse grits. The grit seems very durable and I am happy with how well it puts an edge on both carbon steel and stainless. I was even able to use it to dress the edge on a ceramic knife. I like how this feels in my hand. It feels secure and I don't have any problem holding it steady as I sharpen whatever blade needs it. It is super versatile because you don't need a complex setup on a bench or anything. If you need stability you can brace it against a firm surface like a countertop, tree stump, a knee, or whatever. I am very careful when sharpening. I try and maintain an even angle down the whole length of the edge and the shape of this stone's handle makes that fairly easy. I like the leather sheath/strop. I have not rubbed any compound into the leather so it technically isn't doing anything but removing the burr. I like this stone. I will buy more to have them in tool boxes and in camping gear.

This is a good little sharpener if you're out camping or working and Jost need to put a quick edge on something. The double sided grit gives you a heavy duty side for an axe and a lighter side for a finer edge. I would recommend this.

Ive had a few different sharpeners now. This one seems the most versatile and easy to pack. It is a brilliant design. Simple and effective. Get the leather case. It works as a strop and protects the file. And get some stripping compound to add to the leather strop

I sharpen knives and tools professionally, using primarily hand sharpening methods. For kitchen knives, I prefer to use diamond sharpening plates such as the Sharpal 156N or its big brother, the 162N. However, these whetstones are not as easy to use on garden tools, because they are designed to be stationary on a surface while the knife is drawn over the diamonds. Garden tools are easier to sharpen by drawing the honing device over a stationary edge. That's where the 127N sharpener comes in. This Sharpal 127N sharpener is very good at putting an edge on tools such as loppers, hand snips, hedge trimmers. I hold the tool securely on a table or the porch railing or wherever is convenient, then move the sharpener along the edge, keeping the desired angle by following the curve of the cutting edge. The double sided coarse/fine sharpening surfaces allow me to restore a damaged edge and then refine it to optimal sharpness. When sharpening a single-edge tool such as a lopper, I know when I have the edge ready for the fine grit diamond after I have formed a "burr" along the backside of the cutting edge. Some people remove that burr by opening and closing the tool, but I prefer to hold the 127N flat against the back of the blade and pull it across, keeping the sharpener flat against the blade. I repeat until the burr is gone, then I use the fine grit diamond side of the sharpener to resharpen the blade and remove any scratch marks from the coarse diamonds. This sharpener can be used on knives, too. I used the 127N to sharpen the survival knife in the photo, which arrived with a rather dull edge. The 127N sharpens just fine dry, but it works with water, too. Probably oil, but oil is so messy... I suggest washing the diamond surface and maybe scrubbing with a toothbrush after sharpening, to remove any metal particles that remain after the sharpening is done. I should mention that the manufacturing process for many Sharpal diamond hones leave an initial grittier surface that will get somewhat smoother after a number of uses. This is totally normal. The same thing happens with the flat plates I use for kitchen knives, and is typical for diamond sharpeners in general, whether Sharpal or not. Sharpal uses monocrystalline diamonds that will last for years.

Besser regelmäßig nachschärfen bevor das Werkzeug stumpf wird, dann hält auch der Stab lange und das Nachschärfen geht schnell und problemlos.
