My absolute favorite green tea

After learning about the microplastics in tea bags I wanted to switch to a loose leaf tea. This tastes great. I let it steep for 3 minutes.

Being a bit of a tea-snob, I approached this "cheap product" with caution. Other than the price, it had two things going for it: it was organic, and it was reasonably fresh (my package was harvested Summer of 2017, I consumed it during Jan and Feb of 2018. Not too old, as far as tea goes. Not really fresh, but much better than anything you'd get in your average Kroger, Whole Foods or especially your neighborhood Teavana store (don't get me started on those). The first batches I ran turned out rather bitter. Obviously, the tea needs a bit more heat than most of the green teas I usually drink do. The tea also benefits from aerating. The palate is pretty grassy, as others have pointed out, with little of the subtle notes of roasted vegetables and blossoms that the better Darjeeling teas tend to have. Also none of the lovely muscatel fragrance that the Southern Darjeeling plantations are famous for. I suspect this tea is grown pretty much in the North, and they are probably harvesting most of the tea leaf. OK then, let's brew it as such. Here's the recipe to success: use fresh, cold, filtered water only. Heat it up to 175ºF (80ºC), use at least 5 teaspoons of tea for 1 quart/liter of water, and let the tea steep for 4:00 minutes. Then pour the brew away (or feed it to your plants) and immediately prepare a second brew with 170ºF and 4:30 minutes steeping time. That one will be excellent. Smooth and luscious liquor, not overly complex, but still enough layered taste for you to explore and keep it interesting.

Real green tea.

If you've tried to brew your own green tea, you know that it can be unforgiving. Seems it needs no more than 175 degree water and a 3 to 4 minute brew time to avoid bitterness. Then there's the anxiety of where to purchase it from. Most seems to be sourced from China and I've read countless hair raising reports about the lack of quality controls and lax standards of all types of products, from kid's toys sprayed with lead based paint, to things labeled organic that is irrigated with sewage water! Sorry for that mental image, but based on Amazon's recommendation and so many positive reviews I decided to give this tea a try. It's grown at high elevations at plantations in Darjeeling, India. Immediately on opening the sealed package I was impressed by the consistency and beauty of the leaves. I purchased a Breville tea maker some time back that simplifies the brewing and times it perfectly. Using the Breville, I use 2 heaping teaspoons of tea in the basket with one liter of filtered water for 4 minutes. The resulting tea is absolutely delicious. Very light with no tannin or bitter taste. I bought a klean kanteen one liter thermos bottle that by the way keeps liquids incredibly insulated, and I fill it with my fresh brew to take to work and sip all morning. This brand is marketed as having rigorous controls and purity standards and, of course, we can only hope they are accurate and true. But I can verify that this has become my defect brand. I'd determined that i wanted to increase my green tea intake mostly for the health benefits and EGCG content. But with tea this delicious, I look forward to my daily liter intake of tea. My mouth feels clean and sanitized after drinking it. Cannot recommend that you try this enough if you are a green tea lover for taste or health reasons.

I highly recommend this company and product line to anyone who loves a good hot pot of tea like I do each morning. The price is also very reasonable. I brew a hot green tea each morning and then sit the hot brewed leaves in their mesh bag in a pot of filtered cold water and leave it all day to cold brew. In the evening I pour the cold brew into a glass jar and pop it in the refrigerator for a cold tea the next day. Great company! Great product!

This is a very high quality tea. Subtle flavours wihout bitterness when brewed correctly.

I didn't think I could get off coffee. I don't particularly like green tea either. This is a different blend than I get in the restaurants. Mellow taste, soft almost, and it is refreshing. I also noticed that it shook off fatigue as much as coffee does but not in the same way. It is difficult to describe but I will try with an analogy. If coffee is an emotion, this tea is almost like a state. I feel alert but without feeling jittery. I hope that makes sense.
