It works as advertised
I bought this wind vane kit and I also bought the suggested mini tripod but I think it came from a separate seller. I really like the two together. The bane kit came with a nice bag so my kestrel 5700 and the wind vane are stored together. The case is much nicer than the little bag the kestrel came with so that’s a nice upgrade. The threaded portion swivels so it screws right into the little tripod. The whole unit is not very tall so you’ll have to set it up on a high spot for a decent wind reading. I have Bluetooth on my kestrel so it can now take measurements and send them to my phones calculator while I’m behind the gun.. really cool piece of gear.

Great for Distance Shooting and flying drones and fixed wing UA's
I use this for wind information while flying UA's and when shooting long distance. Very valuable information and the unit works great.

Well made. Breaks down nicely. Needs a level.
Seems to work well. Really needs the mount it's on to be level though. I bought a level for the trip it to goes on. Seems like a more precise way to go than guestimating direction but wind is always a guessing game.

Makes your Kestrel mo bettah!
I first saw this mount at the SHOT show where it was mounted to a tripod located on top of a hill above the range, transmitting to receivers nearby for long distance work. It packs down small and is invaluable to keep you updated with weather conditions whether on the trail or at home.

I actually did not keep this one but one came with the Kestrel, works great.

It works don’t worry if it seems heavy
I thought it seemed sluggish but, it needs a 2-4 mph wind to start spinning.

iT WORKS BUT OVERPRICED AND UNDER SIZED
It fits together easily and works but is made out of cast plastic and should be priced about $30. The case is heavy nylon but not padded. It looks like larger wind vane or longer shaft would make it more sensitive. It is smaller than it looks in the picture.

The Kestrel Rotating Vane Mount & Carry Case for the Kestrel 5000 series environment meter attaches to a standard photographer's tripod and stores easily. This is exactly what I needed to maximize the utility of my Kestrel meter for on-site weather monitoring for my amateur astronomy rig.
