Review: Very unusual - I was familiar with LED's but not EL Wire. I still wonder how it works. The color is uniform along the entire length of the wire (actually plastic tubing) not bright and dim like the LED string lights. However, they are not as bright as LED's and are best for low light areas or darkness. They make great accent lights for decorating and one can wear them as part of a costume. As long as the bend is not too radical, one could form letters with them. I did not hear the sound others mention but my daughter did. I have no complaints about the battery box and suggest those who have problems try positioning a small piece of aluminum foil to bridge any gaps in the contacts. I was a little leery about buying one because of the negative comments in some reviews. I didn't know what EL Wire is and thought maybe it was just junk. I was so delighted and surprised when it arrived. Review: 4 years and still working - I bought this for a Halloween costume 4 years ago. It still lights up with a good set of batteries. Although I only turn it on once a year pretty much, it's still an awesome product for the price.

4 years and still working
I bought this for a Halloween costume 4 years ago. It still lights up with a good set of batteries. Although I only turn it on once a year pretty much, it's still an awesome product for the price.

More fuscia than purple...
I was expecting a UV-type color tone... however I got a white wire in a violet housing acting like a filter, giving a fuscia/pink color. Nevertheless, It is a very nice item, I wired it (PCB included ) to the 5v line of one of the USB ports of my computer and having it running 24/7 . Not flaws so far...except heat There IS pitching sound..probably made by the inverter, and it gets louder when raising the current , this thing also gets hot , so if you gonna hack it take the sound and the heat into consideration.

It will turn you into a wizard.
Awesome, I added this el wire to a trench coat and someone asked me if I was a wizard. I sewed it on with fishing line so that you can't see the thread, and it looks great! Be aware that this will put off a high-pitched sound from the battery pack, kind of like an old tv, so you might not want it near your ears for a long time. Also, if you aren't careful, the clasp that hooks the wire to the battery pack can break. That's really only if you are rough with it though. The batteries have lasted through at least 5 full nights at this point.

It's not purple at all
Well I have to say this wasn't what I expected at all. It took me a while to even get it to work & then come to find out it glows blue not purple. As a positive I may not be able to use it for it's original intentions but it's still pretty cool. It's very tiny in diameter so it'd make a great detail to a costume if you wanted to glow. Like I said though It glows Blue not Purple.

The worst EL wire I've ever seen or heard
The EL wire itself is extremely dim and looks spotty when viewed up close (not a uniform glow), making me wonder if the phosphor was damaged in some fashion (water damage?). Given that it arrived in an airtight bag, I can only assume that any such damage didn't occur during shipping, and was a result of the manufacturing process. Also, the inverter is the noisiest I've ever heard, and would drive even someone used to the sound of EL wire insane. At least if the wire looked good I'd attempt to pot it with epoxy, but it's not even worth making that attempt. Simply put, even if you're trying to make a cheap project, you'd do better by trying any other product. UPDATE: Reading some of the other reviews, it makes me wonder if multiple products are being sold as the same Amazon listing (I've had it happen before with electronics). In any case, my review stands since it's honestly what I received when attempting to buy what many other people were happy with.

Works great and is still working a year later!
Bought it for BM and it kept working the whole week, don't even think I had to replace the batteries. Keep in mind I put the battery pack in a ziplock and taped it shut so it wouldn't be exposed to the alkali dust. Great to wrap around your bike or jacket.

Not Really Purple and Very Dim
Shipment was reasonably prompt, considering it isn't eligible for Amazon Prime. It works properly. However, I expected the two lengths of wire I'd ordered to be a lot brighter. I had previously ordered two 15-foot lengths of purple wire by Graybean. The Graybean wires were nice and bright. In comparison, the BeWild wires were very dim. The contrast was so noticeable that I could not use the BeWild wire on my costume. I ordered the Graybean wire in the 11-foot lengths instead. That wire cost a bit more, but it was worth it. As other reviewers have noted, the wire isn't really purple. It's a definite two-tone wire. The Graybean wire isn't exactly purple either, but it's closer than the BeWild wire. I wore the costume at Faerieworlds in Oregon. While there I bought a pair of purple and black wings. I thought of perhaps adding the BeWild wire to the wings, but even on their own, away from the Graybean wires, they're just so dim compared to other EL wire I'd seen over the weekend. The second star is only because the wire was delivered promptly and the units work well. If they'd been as bright as most other wire I've seen, I would've added one or two stars. Lesson learned: Don't mix brands of wire in the same project.
