COGAT Test Prep Grade 5 Level 11: Gifted and Talented Test Preparation Book - Practice Test/Workbook for Children in Fifth Grade

It's good book but is thinner than I anticipated. My son is almost through it already (2 weeks).

My son was prepared for the cogat after reading this book. Analogies and more, my son enjoyed doing this and my older son loved it too!

There aren’t a whole lot of CogAT prep books out there. I’d say this one is relatively better than the few others out there - not that I’ve seen them all. If your student is interested in some practice tests ahead of the real test, this book will do the job. But I did hear from my student that the actual test questions were by and large trickier than the samples in the book. That said, he fared very well - so have to give the book its due credit.

We nominated our 5th grader for Hi-cap testing at our local school (this for advanced track academics next year) at her teacher's recommendation and she suggested some test prep, mostly for getting used to the types of questions she would face (like sat prep). She referred some books and also websites. So far of them all, I felt this was the easiest to go through ahead of the exam. What's different in this book is that it's not just practice exams. It starts with a section that is practice questions divided in the 8 types of questions to practice. Not only that, there is an introduction that coaches you on the question types and how to answer them (ie variations of analogies etc). They also prep you for the overall testing by going over "process of elimination", pacing, checking answers and reminding you that you should answer all the questions since you are not penalized for wrong answers. Overall I found it the easiesr book to use for structured prep so far. Now I have no idea if it will actually help or if the content is technically correct, but as this is also true for every alternative option (books or online), I decided to go with this one, as it made the most sense for me in helping my child. Hopefully this helps you decide too. Update: my tween ended up qualifying for Hicap with her cogat scores near top. I would have to say this was a qualified success.

This was purchased for someone who got to take the COGAT test. They said the book really helped them feel more confident in taking the test. They were thankful they had the practice book.

This book is an excellent resource for the CogAT exam. Resources for this exam are hard to find. The caliber of this is perfectly age appropriate. I love that there is a book for each age group, many resources are clumped together with multiple ages that it covers. My student loves using this book and now wants to try higher level books to challenge themselves before the test.
