Use esp32 and 5v
This CAN transceiver needs a CAN controller to work. esp32 has the controller built in. Also I only got it to work with 5v. Tested with ESP32CAN.h and the library examples that were included.

Broken when I got them
This could just be my bad luck/inexperience, but I could not for the life of me get these transceivers to work. I've double-checked my wiring, tried a different arduino DUE, and probed every pin, but no matter what I do the basic ping-pong CAN test won't work. Apparently I should've read more carefully online — I've seen in at least two places that this type of transceiver model is unreliable. I'm going to try out the SN65HVD230 transceiver instead, hopefully that ends up working.

NOT 3V!
I purchased a set of these off eBay. I wrestled with them all day. After hours of R&D I stumbled on a German review here on Amazon where he discovered these are 5V, not 3V despite the claim. Sure enough, as soon as I hooked up my level converters it sprang to life. Hope this saves someone else the trouble!
