If the switch is off, you can still use the outlet. For this to work, you need to wire it correctly. Wire it incorrectly and it won't work. Which wires go where is clearly labeled on the back.A few days ago I replaced our radon fan which had died. It has a power switch outside, and it was old, rusty, and weathered. As I thought about it, I figured it would be convenient to also have an outlet there so I wouldn't need to run an extension cord if I was doing work on that side of the house.
