Not the same color as the original wand that broke, but it works
The tip broke off the electric wand (S500 canister) after ten years of service. The original was dark gray plastic, like the tools. The replacement has a stainless steel finish. Fit and finish are fine, and both nonelectric and electric attachments work great. The steel finish will "show" fingerprints similar to steel kitchen appliances. On the plus side, the extension control on the original wand always stuck and required extra force to extend the wand. This replacement wand extends smoothly and easily. Most importantly, it made an existing S5 canister "good as new", allowing use of all of the attachments and the electric powerhead. Better than $800-900 for a new canister. Should deduct half a star for the steel finish/fingerprints issues, but overall it merits five stars. Note: I saved the old/broken electric wand. While it no longer can accommodate attachments, it still extends (with difficulty) and can be used as a primitive crevice tool for dirty jobs (cobwebs, spilled powders, etc.) when you don't want to use your new wand or get it dirty. It takes up virtually no space to store, so why not? Update February 2013: I had several issues with debris clogging the wand, requiring me to clear obstructions out of the wand. Upon closer inspection, I learned why: there is an electric cord inside the wand that bunches up and forms a curl when the wand is retracted to a short length. Debris gets caught here and clogs the entire wand interior. When the wand is extended to full length, the extra wire is taut and lies flat against the inner wall of the wand. I saved my old wand, despite the broken-off tip, and do not see the interior wire curled up when the wand is shortened, so the wiring design of the new wand is inferior to that of the original, in that you are likely to get clogs if you operate the wand at its shortest length. Using the wand extended to full length, it's fine, no clogs, but someone who is short--or who is using it to clean drapes or overhead objects (top of furniture cabinets, ceiling fans, etc) might not find it easy to use in the fully extended position. After experiencing four clogs on one day of use, I now use the wand only fully extended, to force the interior wire taut/flat. I am 5'11", so the fully extended length is fine for me, but probably wouldn't be so nice for someone 5'2". What concerns me here is that new canisters are being delivered with this redesigned wand, and I'm guessing all of the new buyers may have the same clogging issues I am having. and note, the tip of the wand is still plastic, so it can still break off. This is what happened to my old wand: the tip broke off, but the rest of the wand is still in perfect shape ten years after purchase. For those canister owners who bought S5-S6 models in the past decade, if your tip breaks, you'll have no choice but to buy one of these, unless you can find a used wand on eBay.

Quality product
I love my Miele vacuum. It's very well made and year after year is a pleasure to use. After 2 years, the clip on the bottom of the wand wore down, came loose, and when it came out, the wiring slid out. It was somewhat difficult to reassemble. It would clip back into place, but just barely. Then before long, it would come apart again. I was pretty unhappy that I had paid so much for the vacuum and the wand appeared so fragile. I broke down and bought a new wand. Quite expensive. I've waited to review it to see how it would hold up. It has been nearly a year and it doesn't appear the lower clip is wearing at all. Don't know what caused the early failure of the first one, but thinking it may have just been a fluke. The new one is fine.

Not worth top dollar price that Miele charges
I have been using Miele vacuums for years in my cleaning business. Overall, they are one of the better ones on the market. But they have many weaknesses. The wand, in particular, can have multiple problems. Debris easily gets stuck in the wires inside and constantly clogs up. The plastic button can easily pop off and break with the slightest bump. And either the retracting mechanism freezes up and you can no longer adjust the length of the wand. Or it constantly slips and collapses and will not hold it's position. I recently e-mailed Miele about these issues and they don't seem to take these problems seriously. I was told that I have issues because I use the vacs in my business and that those customers who only use them residentially and not commercially aren't really having these problems. From what I have read of reviews just on Amazon, that is just not true. Over the years, I have watched Miele's ratings continue to drop. And I think they will drop even further if they don't start taking customer complaints seriously.

Significantly better than factory original on Silver Moon model, snug fit restored functionality
I wasn't absolutely positive that buying a $115 part on the Internet was the way to go, but the floor brush attachment had stopped working and I wasn't about to disassemble things beyond opening the bottomn to look for obstructions. I spent the time while waiting for the part by clearing all the airways and proving everything worked without the old extension. You will see in the attached images the different between old and new parts besides the old one being so worn. It took 15 years to wear out the old one so ($115 / 15 = $7.67 a year) spending this money seemed reasonable if you are confident the rest of the unit will keep going. Our Silver Moon gets quite a bit of use so it seems to be back to full functionality now. (Did I just jinx myself?) You can see in the second photo the dimensional differences and they are slightly different visually and in length. Also, the new version has a slightly wider interior opening because a plastic channe.l at the start of the tube (in first photo) is not in the way in the newer version. Yes, the color doesn't match the old part, but we put our Miele in the closet when we're not using it and we're not looking at the tube when we are. Be safe.

Exactly what I needed, but...
A plastic piece at the top cracked the first time I put it on the vacuum. I then dropped the wand (on the carpet) and the piece snapped off. It does not seem to affect its functionality, but there is a sharp plastic piece that catches me occasionally. Otherwise I am happy with the purchase.

Perfect replacement once you get a new "sealed" unit.
The first wand I received new was clearly opened and had small plastic parts floating around. Security seal was broken. Promptly returned it for a replacement. The replacement also came not from an Amazon warehouse despited the listing showing it as shipped and sold by Amazon. It works, but in the future I will get all parts from Miele as prices are about the same.

Works good
I loved how this is actually longer than the part that came with my Miele, easier to reach certain places. Fits just right

the replacement of the product was incorrect
The extension wand on my vacuum cleaner broke, so I ordered a replacement. The first package apparently got lost and spent a long time in transit before the seller finally cancelled the order. I decided to order it again. This time, the item arrived defective—the wand kept collapsing while the vacuum was in use. I requested a replacement, returned the defective item to the seller, and ended up receiving cast-iron grates instead! I am absolutely outraged; I have never had such a terrible shopping experience. I run a cleaning business, and getting this spare part on time was critical for my operations."
