This Shave Soap Rocks!
Love this Shave Soap. I've used Van Der Hagen before and liked it. I was using some other shave creams and soaps and needed a refill. I started looking around here on Amazon and saw a ton of soaps and stuff. I was about to by the another popular shave soap but saw these. They were about the same price, except the other one has 4 different pucks and scents. This only had 3 pucks and only 1 scent. However, these are 3.25 oz, while the others are only 2.25 oz. I decided to stick with these and man, am I happy I did. They lather up great, paint across the face perfectly. They may not have a slick after sheen to run a touch up, but neither do others that I've used. There are more expensive ones out there that have it all, but I've always run two passes on my shaves so there's never been a problem with touchups. I just dropped the puck into my shave mug, warmed up my brush and shaver in hot water, dabbed the brush onto the puck to start the lather. Worked perfectly. Lathered up great the first time, but the second pass was even better. The later really took off and painted on my face perfectly. I didn't have to keep running back to the mug to work the later because what was on the brush already was enough to give me more lather than I expected the second time around. It's gonna save me in the long run as it will last longer than I expected. The one thing I like is that it rinses from my blade and share without leaving a residue which mucks up the blade the next time I use it. That's such a plus for me. The scent is light and really nice too. I made the right choice and I'm happy I bought Van Der Hagen than anything else. This will be my soap from now on and with the 3 pucks, they'll last me a long time.

I L-O-V-E this soap!
First things first: This soap makes a great, creamy lather that really takes care of your face. I shave with the cutthroat blade 3-4 times a week, bought the 3pk over a year ago and am just about to break into the 3rd cake. It really lasts, and if you do the job right with a quality brush [BADGER bristles!!! I soak mine in hot water for 10 minutes before lathering up, FYI] and the right amount of water after shaking the excess off, you just will not find a better shaving soap. Period. It feels great, smells great, keeps the whiskers lubed so they stand up for your blade, and, oh yeah...lasts a long time. Mine fits perfectly in my 45yr-old shaving mug, by Old Spice [gift from my mother long ago] and whether using with the old man's 112yr-old blade or the modern version I bought some time back, it just flat-out gets the job done. And the cherry on the sundae is it's priced right. The pic I've attached is at the very end of the shave. Highly recommend and will buy again. UPDATE: Just received my 3rd 3pk of this fine product in three years, shaving every other day. Can't imagine how many cans of shaving cream I'd have gone through in that same time. This is just such a good product. Keep up the hight standards, Van Der Hagen, Many thanks.

Good product to buy.
Have used this brand of shave soap for over five years, and it does a great job. When I first started using it, I bought it at the pharmacy. When they stopped carrying it, I then started ordering it online. I have forgotten how many times I have ordered more. The price is right for this product, and it will do a terrific job of creating a rich lather for shaving. Try it, and I thank you will agree with me bout the shave soap.

doesn't have the hype... but it has the performance
Triple-milled soap (which means it'll last a long time, full of good stuff, and leaves your skin feeling smoother than other softer soaps - like the glycerine soaps). This is the hardcore of the hardcore shaving products (triple milled soaps) - or aka "most old-fashioned/traditional way". It doesn't have the big name necessarily (probably b/c this is the brand your local drugstores carry and thus not as "boutique" or "exotic"), but this one has everythign you will want. 1. lathers well, not so hard 2. smells good... (triple milled soaps typically aren't known for their scents). 3. very nice slickness to it and it DOES NOT dry!!! (that is the downfall of most crèmes and soaps especially). I have been on a rampage as a new wet shaver to find somethign that doesn't dry so quickly since i shave my head along with my face. I've done crèmes and soaps of the following variety: Taylor on Bond Street, Colonel Conk, Williams, Edwin Jagger, Musoreal, and i cna't remember the other 1 or 2 i've tried. Williams, Colonel Conk, and this one were the 3 that kept a nice slick lather without drying out and thus a smooth, comfy shave. Musoreal is SUPPOSED to be one of the best out there but i haven't been able to use it effectively but keep trying since it's supposed to up there. Williams and Van der Hagen are the triple-milled and they do feel REAL NICE post shave. Colonel Conk (glycerine) i think is becoming my favorite however as it is really realy super slick and stays moist and smells SO very good (as a glycerine they can carry scent better and have more scent). Colonel Conk also has a fantastic rep in the industry. So.. this is how it goes: 1. Williams for a SUPER CHEAP triple-milled no-nonsense, clean slick shave. NO bells and whistles. Motel6 type scent. This is shaving perfection on pennies. No container. 2. Van der Hagen for a more luxurious and semi-pampered triple-milled experience with good smelling lather that also lasts. Pays a bit more but bedause it's triple-milled will last you a long time and thus a good value even at the higher price. Comes with it's own plastic self-closing container for easy travelling. 3. Colonel Conk. Glycerine soap so it is not as good of value b/c it wno't last as long, but much more scent to it and a nice slippery feel to it. Stays nice and slipper too. Looks "fancier" with the translucent colorized soaps. Comes in a neat plastic self-closing container for travelling as well. I prefer these soaps (especially their value and much less cost) over the more expensive crèmes such as Taylor of Bond Street (which is a top-rated crème). You'll feel just as good, for much less, if you're okay with the cleaner, more subtle scent over the envigorating scents of crèmes.

Highly Recommended! And Don't Believe the Propylene Glycol Criticism
This shaving soap is AWESOME! Thick, rich lather. Slippery and lubricating--far more so than modern creams and gels. Nice light scent. Great value! I feel constrained to respond to the review equating propylene glycol to anti freeze. That's just wrong and mis-informed. I've had it with the environmental rhetoric about Propylene Glycol in Soap. Everyone on the web (including at least one Amazon reviewer) seems to be voicing an opinion about this 'alleged' toxic ingredient. For those of you who don’t know, PG (propylene glycol) is a common ingredient found in melt and pour soap base. Not just soap base, but also in certain medicines, cosmetics, and food products to name a few. PG is considered a safe and appropriate ingredient not just for cosmetic products, but also for ingested products like food and pharmaceuticals. It is on the US Food and Drug Administration's list of ingredients which are Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) and is recognized by the World Health Organization as safe for use. A review on this listing spouted out claims that PG is an inappropriate ingredient for cosmetics and foods because it is also used in products such as antifreeze. The environmental rhetoric about PG found on the web is well-intended but ultimately not accurate. It is ethylene glycol that is a more common ingredient in antifreeze and which is, in fact, highly toxic. The Because of this, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) actually recommends the use of PG-based antifreeze because it is safer than ethylene glycol should pets accidentally ingest it. Just because PG can be used to make an alternate and safe (and very expensive) form of antifreeze does not mean it is toxic! Just the opposite is true. Simply because PG has many different applications does not mean it is toxic. Don't believe the rhetoric. This is a beautiful and safe soap with nothing to do with synthetic antifreeze!

This is a great soap for my Shaving Mug. Leadtime is L O N G, so give yourself plenty of time and order early.

A reliably good shave
This is my shaving soap of choice. For a traditional wet shave, this gives a reliable creamy lather that holds up well. The ingredients are all safe and together help a good result without burning or irritation. The fragrance is gentle and pleasant and isn't overpowering. Also important that it is good value, both for the price and the length of time that one bar will last. Greatly superior to the more expensive competition.

I love this stuff!
I recently switched to DE razor wet shaving and got this as part of the Van Der Hagen Men's Luxury, Shave Set . It's a generous chunk of soap, and I estimate it'll last me at least 6 months. It lathers rich and fully, and goes on quite well with the inexpensive brush they provided. However, all of that pales in comparison to the smell. The smell is amazing. I'd wear it as a cologne if it were available. It's subtle, warm, masculine, rich, and lingering. It's not overpowering in the least, but it's always there. I never actually smell it unless a small breeze moves under my nose, or I move through space. It reminds me of being a man, and I find myself grabbing the mug it sits in, or the brush I use whenever I'm in the bathroom and smelling it. Sometimes I go to the bathroom on non-shave days just to smell it. I've even lathered my face on a non-shave day (every other day) just for the scent. It's intoxicating. But because I'm new to this whole thing, I decided it would be wise to invest in some more expensive, luxury soap brands, time tested and bulwark through the ages. Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream Bowl, 5.3-Ounce and Geo F. Trumper Violet Shaving Soap Refill . I figured, well if this is a cheap puck from a Dutch brand, the "real" stuff from England must be phenomenal! I couldn't have been more wrong. They stink. They stink to high heaven, and I wouldn't put them anywhere near my skin. They stink of old people, and remind me of nursing homes. Furthermore, they don't smell anything like sandalwood or violets. Returned just as soon as they arrived. So, I find myself faithfully buying 3 more pucks of this alluring, seductively scented masculine soap nary before my current puck has budged an inch in its mug, because I like to be reminded of what it's like to be a man.
